BABY BOOMERS HAD IT F***ING EASY! | |

If they do not get what they want, one throws a temper tantrum. |

ifSHTF.com User ID: 968710 United States 06/04/2010 05:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I never said I don't have an education. In fact, I have two college degrees. I grow a large organic vegetable garden and play guitar in a band. I don't care about "getting some ass" because I'm a voluntary celibate. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using drugs in a responsible fashion. I see no need for religion, a wife, kids, mortage, etc, because all of these things seem phony to me. I'm not going to live my life based on what someone else told me I should be--I love my life and I'm really quite a happy person with great friends to spend my time with. You really seem to think I'm missing something important, but I don't think so. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 430043You're not charged to live your life by my standards, and you very well might not be missing out on anything important. I'm simply not as free spirited as you; I need more structure in my life to have a feeling of accomplishment. I do have a question though - why did you pick up two degree if all you ever wanted was some dead-end job that doesn't lead to any sort of career? It's meant to be a sincere question - and not an insult. My cousin is like you, and I guess I'm trying to understand the angle. Last Edited by ifSHTF on 06/04/2010 05:34 PM |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 984745 United States 06/04/2010 05:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Because you sucked as parents, they feel cheated, lost and ill-equipped to succeed. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 990079The ones that are prepared to fix this hellacious mess need narcissistic, controlling, power-hungry boomers to stand down. How successful have has your generation been as parents? There are a lot of "boomer" grandmothers raising children your generation abandonned when you realized how hard it was. We could say, just like you are, that our parents sucked. Difference is we didn't sit around feeling sorry for ourselves and whining like you are. You blame your feelings of being cheated, lost and ill-equiped on your parents, sit around expect to be handed power and control? BTW, as a group we didn't blame our parents for everything in our lives. They tried to raise us as they were raised. Instead we stood up, worked hard and earned the power and control you feel is your right to have without ever proving yourself. We'll stand down when you stand up. You didn't earn shit. You had it handed to you - job security, cheap housing, outrageous returns on investments - shit, you were getting 15% interest in a savings account. YOU HAD IT EASY. You don't know the meaning of struggle. The hill my generation has to climb is TWICE as steep as what yours was - that is the baby boomer legacy to us. Just admit that you fucked it all up. Look, I see you bitching, but what are you going to do about it? Get a cart and start selling produce on the street. We all are now rowing the same boat. Do something. Can't go back, can only go forward. Better grab a corner quick. No joke Padro. |

I don't have a dead end job--I'm self-employed as a part-time musician and part-time horticulturalist/landscaper. That's what my degrees are in. Since you asked. I wouldn't want to do either of those full time because I get burnt out doing the same thing all the time. I need variety, and I have it in spades. My parents did everything "by the book," got married at 19, had three kids, worked full-time, bought a house, etc. They were far less happy at 30 than I am now. I made sure not to do the same things they did, but to find my own way. I'm happy, regardless. If that makes me a "degenerate," than so be it. |

Quoting: PatrikC325Dude, we know. You think we don't get it? There's a reason we aren't pursuing the "American Dream," we know it ain't what it's cracked up to be, it's hardly even possible any more anyway, so why bother? I do stay busy growing veggies in my garden though. I never much cared for video games. |

Right on. We bought our first 3 BR house, brand new, for $300 down. The PITI was $10 more a month than we had been paying for rent for a two BR apt., with no garage. Job security was great. The politicians back then were not so into what they could get out of it themselves. Yes, we have lived through the best of times, and they will never be back, I'm afraid. |

I don't really see you as a degenerate. 2 years ago where I am now was the farthest thing from what I wanted, so I'm not about to lecture you on what the proper choice is.
