During the Top Kill and Junk Shot, they shot too much pressure down the bore hole and blew out a safety ring below the sea floor creating a hole in the main pipe. Who knows, could have happened in the beginning in the explosion...

Now you have extreme pressures blowing out of that hole and into the ground under the sea floor...It is cracking the seafloor and is starting to come up through it...

If they nuked it, we would all know....

There would be a MASSIVE tsunami at the very least and probably would collapse the seafloor. Not to mention set off the New Madrid Faultline..

This is a dumb thread. If they nuked it, the signature of the blast would show up on seismographs all over North and South America and probably Europe. There would be no way to hide it. The whole world would know immediately and we would be in violation of all sorts of treaties.

The casing of the well probably cracked during the original event that blew the BOP in the first moments of the disaster. Since then the leakage has increased due to erosion and is now flowing out through natural fissures in the ground and showing up as leaks all around the well head.

People from Woods Hole are trying to determine the depth of the leaking well case by triangulation of acoustic emissions and they will attempt to drill the relief wells below that point. BP has probably known all of this for weeks now. The capping and junk shot efforts are mostly just show business to make them look better while they drill the relief wells.
