computer error msg.
For you savy computer genies, my computer seems to be crashing a lot lately. It makes a funny noise too when it crashes, like (and pardon my lack of anything better to describe) but sounds almost like scraping metal. Then the screen goes black. When i reboot i get a error msg something about sqlite not valid entry, and when chkdsk is finished and tries to start windows, it does it again and then i get a new sqlite error msg.
Any thoughts / advice?

btw: posting this on a laptop =)

Re: computer error msg.
Definitely hardware related if noisy. Have you done any physical upgrades to it? Sounds like something isn't mounted right if you're getting a noise or your hard drive is faulty. Is the noise coming from inside the box or from a dvd/rom drive?

Re: computer error msg.
You described hard drive failure. It's the sound of your hard drive scraping, so when you reboot it goes to a scan disk or chk dsk and most likely hangs on step 3.

I only hear the noise in the speakers. no real upgrades in the past two years. But i am curious if it is related to Mcaffee's major update as this problem started right after that (it seems). Can't really find any info on it tho. blink

Re: computer error msg.
That scraping noise sound is your hard drive going 'bye-bye'. While you might be able to run your system a few more times, the hard drive will seize up and cease to work sooner than later.

Take it to the Good Guys or best by (just the computer tower) and have them open it up and attempt to start it, they will know the sound and they will tell you if getting a new Hard Drive for it is possible (or even practical given how computers get out dated so fast).

Also, it may still be possible to get the data off the drive now. however if you keep trying to start it up you may mess it up beyond repair.

I have two hard drives that are completely useless waiting for data extraction methods to improve and lessen in cost.

Colloid silver would work better.
