I noticed that too. Just finished reading it to my husband because I thought it was strange they said "blond spokeswoman'. Is it supposed to imply she's dumb and we shouldn't take her seriously?

The mess isn't the biggest risk.

The real risk is the breaking/corrosion of the pipe, for that would mean an uncontrollable leak.

It has never happened before. There is no way to compare the situation in the Arabian Sea with the situation in the Gulf. NONE of the variables are the same. Different sand/seabed, the water is different, the oil is different, the pressures are different, method of dispersal, the list goes on...

I have no doubt that the Earth, given time, will heal herself, but any comparison between the two events is simply stupid.

Go read SHR's horror story that is linked many times in this thread. This operation has been a fiasco since it's inception. This is NOT blown oil wells leaking everywhere, this is idiots tapping into a fucking asphalt volcano a mile under the ocean.

I am certain that I will never forget that picture. It is the simplest, yet most powerful image that I have seen during this whole mess.

For the record, I DO support offshore drilling, and I AM highly fucked off about this whole operation.

Oh... and YES that is people swimming in fouled waters with oil booms in the background. We were on those beaches and the smells alone made us want to leave.
