The advanced engineering of the ancient Americans
Some of the architectural/engineering projects in North and South America ["Indian" engineering] we cannot duplicate today.

Such as tens of thousands of mounds and pyramids constructed in North America.

One site of many:

Cahokia
[link to www.mnsu.edu]
The city of Cahokia was inhabited from 1300 to 600 BP. At its peak from 900 to 800 BP, the city covered nearly six square miles and had a population of up to 20,000. Houses were arranged in rows and around open plazas. The main agricultural fields lay outside the city. Cahokia was a planned city with elaborate public buildings and perhaps elite residences at its core. The construction of these features required an organized cooperative labor force as well as organized leadership. Astronomical, mathematical and engineering knowledge also appear to be necessary skills in the planning and construction
of the site.

Moundville

There are many mounds surrounding the village or plaza. The site is spread over three hundred acres of land. The mounds are located on a level plateau that is elevated about 60 feet above the Black Warrior River. Within this site there are earthen pyramids and a large plaza in the middle. The mounds range from three to sixty feet tall, but most of them are about twelve to fifteen feet tall. There are four small lakes within the site that archeologists believe were formed by the culture

Iīd agree that the culture of the pre-Columbian Americans was pretty impressive and misunderstood by most laymen, but you will have to define what you mean by īcannot duplicateī.

Are you saying that with unlimited manpower, will, and money, the best technology that money can buy today cannot match any of the achievements youīve mentioned?

Seriously, do you think they would look at the Chunnel, for example, and go, "Pfffft! We could do that with our eyes closed!"?

I think we all might be amazed at what we could accomplish if we didnīt have to slave away at a job for 8 hours every day (minimum), and if we didnīt waste the rest of the day sitting on the couch watching the boob tube.

Native Americans, of course, had neither problem.

of course the many native americans who were slaves had other problems, like building pyramids and mounds.

YOUR BOTH PRETTY CLUELESS DOGFISHHEAD
I live 12 miles from moundville, very nice piles of dirt, and a building where you look down at an excavated burial ground, containing mostly sacrifices.
This dig isnt that old, around 1400 or so if I remember.
BUT the aztec pyramids!
Theres a lot of stuff that we cant duplicate today fishhead, including a fifty ton block that has an entire side turned to glass, like it was hit by a nuke
EVEN the natives dont know where a lot of this stuff came from, they call these massive buildings the "homes of the gods"
To say that the Indians were more advanced because they built these monuments is misleading, because they didnt build them EITHER
NOBODY know who built them, but a bunch of abroriginal natives certainly didnt in most casesspockbeer2

And when Aztec Ruins itself was abandoned, a new center was born at Casas Grandes, just over the present border with Mexico, 450 miles due south of Aztec Ruins. Chacoan engineers clearly had the ability to survey straight lines over great distances; their surviving "roads" prove it.

EK all you are proving to me is that ancient man was every bit as smart as we are, and didnīt need help from aliens to create magnificent structures and works, some of which would be extremely difficult to reproduce even today.

But not necessarily impossible :-) (had to throw that in)

Cholula is a big one. Some of it was re-constructed by archaeologists though. And, remember it took almost 1000 years for it all to be built.

What could modern man with 1000 years, unlimited funds, and the will do?

"Megalithic" construction is a whole īnother animal. I thought we were talking about earthen mounds and such.

There ARE many instances of ancient construction where we are simply not sure how they did it... because we could not build such things today. Our biggest cranes can only lift so much, and there are many stone blocks used in ancient construction that cannot be lifted by our cranes.

My own personal thought (not unique of course), is that the ancients did not LIFT... they FLOATED the blocks in place. Yes, even at the Great Pyramid. Go look up a guy named Edward J. Kunkel. Iīm not saying his theory was correct, but... at least it solves the "lifting" problem.

Oh, and donīt forget eccentric old Edward Leedskalnin either (Coral Castle).

This stuff fascinates me, me being a civil engineer and all... scratching

you know very well the North American and South American natives were totaly diffrent.

The north american natives were basicly cave people and was over 5000 years behind europe, and basicly still are today because there so dumb and all they do is mug people and get drunk.

the south american natives were diffrent and more smarter and had a culture. they had limited technology and were still far behind europe, but no were near as far behind as the north american natives. though the south american natives to were dumb 1 shipload of spaniards was able to defeat all the south american natives...lol

500 Vs Entire south american population
and the spaniards won.

Well the scale of the total mound building project to me is staggering. We are talking tens of thousands of ancients mounds in N. America.
Including by the way possible pyramids in the NW USA

Sometimes I get the hunch that N. America was the seat and origin of the moundbuilders, who later migrated to Europe, or perhaps the center is now underwater out in the Atlantic.

I think the druids sent Madog ab Owain Gwynedd to America in 1150-1180 to rediscover origins.

Well personally I owe the Elders my life.

After about $100.000 of medical in various Treatment centers I was still drunk with only a few days to live.

The Elders took me in the Sweat and turned me around in a half hour.

Also Iīve met awesome Lakota Elders like Grandfather Wallace Black Elk who sat me down and talked about quantum physics and certain descriptive and more effective patterns as found in the Lakota language.

The Cyclopean architecture originated by the atlanteans is to be found everywhere from Egypt to Peru, from the Baltic Coast to Stonehenge. It is not only most impressive but also durable. The cloistered walks of the cathedrals of western Europe are the same width, for practical purposes, as the preists walks in the temples of ancient Egypt, and Peru, as again in Atlantis.

Copper was first mined in this area by an ancient vanished race between 5,000 and 1,200 bc. These miners left no burial grounds, dwellings, pottery, clay tablets or cave drawings. What was left behind was thousands of copper producing pits and more thousands of crude hammering stones with which the pits had been worked. The ancients apparently worked the copper bearing rock by alternately using fire and cold water, to break the copper ore into smaller pieces from which they could extract the metal with hand held hammering stones or stone hatchets. With this copper, they made tools.
