I'm in New York and support the mosque, as well as gutfield's gay bar. I think both are great symbols of freedom and liberty, and show that we respect the constitution and the rights of all our citizens. Many of us lost friends and family on 9/11 and realize it could have been us who died that day too. Yet we all don't live in fear and hate, most of the widows and widowers I know have long since remarried and started new families. There is just a handful who can't let go and the idiots at fox who are creating all this drama.

btw if you really believe that muslims are going to take over America and impose sharia law and force all our women to wear burkas, you are out of your fucking mind and need to seek psychiatric help. This ain't saudi arabia, it ain't afghanistan, and it sure as fuck ain't israel where muslims are walled off in ghettos reminiscent of nazi germany. I wish all the non-New Yorkers reopening these wounds would shut up and stop using our dead friends as political pawns.

The thing is it's not pissing off a lot of people around here, just a small few. This is really a media-generated controversy and most of the outrage is coming from out of state. Right now I think there are more New Yorkers who want to see something built in that area, ANYTHING, especially our local construction and trucking companies who could use the work. It's been nearly 10 years and still there is a giant gaping hole in the ground to remind us of that terrible day. I also don't understand why people are freaking out as the proposed mosque isn't even located at ground zero, it's 2 blocks away. As for muslims being a minority, it's hard to call anyone a minority in NY when there are so many people of different backgrounds. It's truly a "melting pot".
