Quoting: A human liver 750833I fear for my liver sometimes, but I don't really drink that much really (I think). ? Depends, alcohol is converted by the liver to acetaldehyde which is about as powerful afree radical as there is. If you take no vitamins try keeping down to 2 drinks. Other than that there are many "anti alcohol anti oxidants" that you should take. One capsule per ounce of alcohol. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 750833Is 3/4 of a bottle of red wine 6 days a week too much? Pfffft, nobody stops at 3/4 of a bottle More than 2 regulation size wine glasses 2/3 full per day would be excessive. You'll be okay till age 60ish, then you can kiss your liver goodbye... no transplants for winos BTW. |

The Professor User ID: 660063 United States 08/30/2010 12:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All I know is that two separate studies by the American Medical Association have shown that those who have one or two drinks each day are healthier than those who do not drink at all. Compared to those who do not drink, those who consume one or two drinks daily: (1) get sick less often; (2) recover from illnesses quicker; and (3) live longer. The studies were properly conducted and the sample sizes were statistically significant. However, even though the conclusion (drinkers are healthier and live longer than non-drinkers) was correct, the study was flawed in that there are two possible reasons why drinkers are healthier, and alcohol may not be the determining factor. Other research suggested that the type of people who drink are more outgoing and sociable than those who do not; further, they are more open about their problems and do not keep things “bottled up inside.” In short, it is possible that drinkers by nature are less stressed than non-drinkers and stress by itself is a significant factor in health and longevity. Based upon the studies, it must be conceded that moderate drinkers are healthier than non-drinkers, but no one knows for sure if alcohol is the reason. PS: I cannot remember the dates of the AMA's published findings, but they were about 15 years apart and a long time ago. I have not attempted to acquire more recent information. I will give others the last word. I'm outta here. |

Quoting: A human liver 750833I fear for my liver sometimes, but I don't really drink that much really (I think). ? You should quit. It is not good for you. Not only does it destroy your liver, it also destroys millions of brain cells. The headache you get in the morning is the result of the wounds in your head after your brain cells are destroyed by alcohol. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1083705 China 08/30/2010 12:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It depends on your body size too. Two glasses of red-wine per day in general is meant to be not just ok, but very healthy and beneficial. If your body is bigger, 3 or 4 standard glasses would be healthy. 5 daily glasses, neutral. 6 glasses less neutral. 7 glasses, a bit too much pressure on your liver. 8 glasses, your liver is starting to get pissed 9 glasses, your liver will be annoyed at the overtime, and starting to plot revenge 10 glasses, liver is now livid, and vows to get back at ya 11 glasses, peak anger 12 glasses, liver will put down an ultimatum after a few years; rehab or it packs in due to excessive workload 13 glasses, fuck you I'm packing it in now ya bastard! 14 glasses, shortcut to a hole in the ground six feet under |
