probably... isn´t that likely? likely wisefull?
Otherwise... they probably wouldn´t be there any more...
it´s just the same for us, we are being tested by our own development... it´s part of our evolution, there are many possibilities... just we should be wise and succesfull enough to choose worthy ones!

Conclusion:

A message of hope indeed, not make up by unprepared jokers without high technology (at least local positioners or military GPS and a machine that could make the patterns almost without noticeable errors, as well as a quite well planned pattern/message in several levels)
or a very well perpetrated hoax by intelligences, which nevertheless communicate a message of hope for humankind.

Perhaps... not human, it´s quite possible. Awesome.

ps- there is a third interpretation or message of which i wouldn´t be so sure about, but some thinks that it is related with a current deception brought by equivocal decisions of the past...
which in many ways are not off issue
