Actually, when you calculate the expense that unwanted and dysfunctional children end up being to society, they should pay 20,000 pounds and it would still would be a fraction of the cost to incarcerate or support them later.

Nobody's sterilizing anybody against their will. They are agreeing to be sterilized in exchange for money to buy dope with.

Recovery, true recovery, will grant them the clarity of mind to realize that all those "temporary" reproductive risks they took were stupid enough (while they we're sleeping with dealers, johns and pimps for drugs) without the "permanent" complication of getting pregnant and having a junkie baby.

The problem with your assertions are multifold, but the bottom line is that there are temporary solutions.

For both men and women, there are shots and/or reversible proceedures available.

Pay them to get the shots or to get a Mirena. Don't pay them to be PERMANENTLY sterilized.

Additionally, it's not CHARITY to take advantages of a person who is suffering and is in a terrible place to sterilize them because YOU look down upon them.

There's another word for that, and it's disgusting.

Have you ever seen the results of infants born to addicts. It isn't fair to allow their illness to cause another a life of misery and nerologic damage. Haw many neglected and abused little ones are there out there that suffer? One is too damned manyin my opinion. On the less emotional side, the cost to tax payers for the care and rescue of these little ones is off the charts. I say, don't pay them, just fix them as in sterilization. I have always thought that it was the greatest of sins to subject an innocent baby to misery.

OK< I can see both sides of this argument right now. ON the one hand, I know a drug addict and she will tell you to your own fucking face, she is glad she can't have kids becuase she's afraid of the kind of fucked up world they would live in. And she also knows she is not mother material.
This is because her own father her brothers and her uncles raped her when she was a child. That's why she does drugs. She cannot stop, she doesn't know how so she will die a druggie. I know because I drove her to the hospital once myself while she was out in my car and NOT breathing!
all I could do was shake her and tell her to breathe. I didn't want her dying in my car!
I got her to the hospital ,but they knew her and what she is. They know she won't change until she's dead. And that's when it will all change.
See that girl has enough sense to know NOT to have kids becuase she's a drug addict.
The NGO is doing these folks a favor. Alot of people don't recover,and they don't want to. Sometimes, it's too painful for them to face reality and live with it.

It's not inhumane to sterilize the infirm, or the drunk or the druggie. It is inhumane to force them to raise a child they don't want and cannot take care of so that it becomes a further burden on society.
That's cruel and unusual.

First, your argument again ignores the fact that there are temporary and repeatable measures.

Secondly, just because you and your friend have written her off as a failure and as irrecoverable, doesn't make it so.

And if she ever did recover, being unable to ever have and love children could be a blow that could destroy her newfound hope and freedom.

I keep waiting for the explanation for why permanent is required, rather than repeating a temporary solution.

It's inhumane to take a person and decide that you believe they will and can never change, and then to treat them as such... because you don't KNOW, you just assume.

And if you are wrong, you've stolen that person's basic human rights simply because you were convinced of something and couldn't be bothered to use temporary and repeatable solutions instead of permanent and irreversible ones.
