Mexican companies reduced dollar cash deposits by 75 percent since President Felipe Calderon in September restricted some currency exchanges to fight money laundering by drug gangs, said Guillermo Babatz, president of the National Securities and Banking Commission.

The government banned the use of dollar bills for sales above $100 on Sept. 13 and required retailers to apply for a license to handle dollar deposits. Companies based in states that border the U.S. and in tourist areas are allowed to exchange as much as $7,000 for pesos monthly.

“We don’t want people buying cars with dollars in cash, or refrigerators, or plasma televisions,” Babatz, 41, said in an interview yesterday at his office in Mexico City. “The intention is to make it harder to launder dollars in cash that originate from illicit activities.”

Mexican banks accumulate as much as $14 billion of dollar bills of unknown origin annually, Babatz said. By limiting the use of U.S. bills in the economy, Calderon aims to cut into the profits of drug gangs that earn an estimated $30 billion annually selling cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamines to U.S. customers.

Very simple, other fiat currencies are in just as bad, if not worse shape.

When the MSM start jumping & down, waving their hands & pleading to the governments....I will take notice.

Dont worry Euro will crash first, then the dollar, there are too much countries in Europe in need of a baillout, Greece is already on it, Ireland will follow and Portugal too and so on...Euro is devaluing compared to the U.S Dollar now, but the European stock markets are up(weird!??...NOT!!!), the U.S Dollar is taking advantage of the fall of the Euro, but that's not all, "the fed" is holding the dollar up, as the markets gain after the retails sell, but in the end it will all go down, we cannot save a damaged economy!!!.

Yes, no major exporter wants a strong currency. That's why they are up in arms over QE2, because it has the possibility of devaluing the dollar, which no one wants. This is what the currency wars are about.

Of course it is a fine line between weakening ones currency & all out collapse, which no one wants. They will try to pull it off, none the less.
