Minerals are especially important and magnesium is critical. all vitamins are necessary and B complex in particular. if you only tried a few things you could get some magnesium (not aspartate or oxide, some other kind), some b-complex, some vitamin C and some vitamin D, take those for a month and see if you feel better, eat really well during that time too. You might also like the author Barbara Sher, don't know why I say that but she writes about how to get what you want and she is against "programs" and positive thinking. |

If it gets really interesting you won't be so inclined to start all over hmmmm Last Edited by ~Nobody. Special~ on 12/03/2010 09:59 PM |

X User ID: 1183188 United States 12/03/2010 10:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Every couple days, I do a ritual where I 'start over' my life and try to live normally, but if ANYTHING goes wrong -- if I mess something up or get in an argument or eat unhealthy or just anything -- then I get seriously depressed and give up on life until I pull myself together to do another ritual and start my life anew.... The time leading up to and including the renewal is like a euphoria, but then shortly after I have 'started over' I start to feel paranoid that something will go wrong.... This back and forth lifestyle is ruining me.... does anyone have any idea what's wrong with me and how I should fix this.... Quoting: going insane 1167776I know how you feel. I bought all these "positive thinking" books, etc. And in theory I agree you manifest your thoughts what you give energy too. Well, I guess I will be manifesting shit nothing because I am too depressed to think one damn positive thought. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11676361 Australia 03/01/2012 08:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | try catch yourself at the very point when starting over starts to feel smudgy...and you feel like you need to do it again..right before you get depressed and give up...when your at that stage..ask yourself what is it that hasnt gone right and before you bounce off into a renewing ritual...sit down and write eveything that you thinks not good enough thats wrecking the renewal... next.go for a walk..in nature or somewhere nice...try enjoy it soak it up...do not plot your next ritual/cleansing while walking...give yourself some free time. When you get home..read the list...but read it as if it belonged to someone else...are the things that have tainted the fresh start bad?from the perspective of you veiwing someone elses "slip ups"?...do you still think theyre that bad the person would need to cleanse eveything? I agree with breaking routines, Nicks holiday idea is awesome... you will see what ive suggested is breaking the routine of doing these rituals...dont tell yourself you cant do them(it is like a drug and panic of not being able to perform rituals can compound them)...what the aim is is to catch yourself at the point you feel the negativity and need to perform complusions...and challenge that...ask yourself why..divert your attention and do something else(nice walk, watch dvd etc) then go reassess what youve written. And Learn to forgive yourself for not being perfect and mucking up...we all do that. Be gentle on yourself. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 8209372 United States 10/02/2012 09:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hello, anon. I've reread your post every couple of months, as I have a tendency to search for information related to the symptoms you described. I experience them as well, almost exactly in the words you put them. I don't have any real advice other than this: First, Ignore all the retarded idiots who tell you that mental disorders do not exist. They do. That's a fact. Any of their "it's all up to your willpower" bullshit is completely and utterly false. There are volumes and volumes and volumes of research to support this. So realize that the problems you are experiencing are genuine, and you cannot just simply forget about it like some of the people seem to suggest. Second, seek help. People on this board offer some good suggestions but it is worth finding a credible, licensed therapist to help you with ERP and other forms of therapy. And read all you can on the subject. Gaining perspective into it seems to help a lot. Third, while people tell you to avoid medications, don't rule them out. Although they do "zombify" some people, they can be a godsend for others. Writing off medications entirely is a bad thing. While others I know have had bad experiences, it works great for others, including myself. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) has worked wonders for me. I've taken it since the 90s and it has helped more than you could ever know. Don't misunderstand me as saying that you have to be on this medication in order to feel OK, but to toss out the possibility is a bad idea. I am about to go through one of my countless start-overs now, so I totally get it. Also, check out this link: [link to www.steveseay.com] Good luck. Don't give up. |

Quoting: Treasures When he was in kindergarten, during a parent teacher conference, the teacher asked me to send him to school with only pencils with no erasers. She said he spent so much time writing and erasing to do it over again, that he'd never get past the first line lol. To this day, he is still a bit of a perfectionist. LOL I used to use a ruler when writing so everything would be perfectly lined up. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1167776this is the opposite of OCD.... and why do you think it is 'wrong' ?? What would you call this then? And how is it different from OCD?.... sounds more like AvPD.... OCD people normally never 'give up'....and OCD is more about physical actions than thoughts.... This is crazy because when I was in the navy they diagnosed me with a narcissistic personality disorder..... *correction, it was antisocial personality disorder... however, after reading about AvPD I would say that is what I have to the 'T' ..... I have always been self conscious about my appearance but for good reason --- I was ridiculed or just plain ignored by my peers my entire life growing up... couple that with the fact that my father always berated me and made me feel small and that would describe why I feel like I have to try so hard to be a perfect human --- I am always trying to live up to someone else's acceptance, which one must do to an extent if he/she wants to be a social being.... Could also be social anxiety disorder OP, I have this too. [link to www.helpguide.org] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 20162918 United States 10/02/2012 10:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sorry if I'm repeating anyone, but I know precisely what you are explaining. Mine has more with starting at the beginning of a month, a week, or at 11:59 PM. I destroy things before I will throw them away, etc. For those who say you can just "make your mind stronger," they are absolutely wrong. The part of the brain that causes the obsession is not rational. Often times acting out the ritual is the only way to get any relief. Even if it's temporary. Have you ever heard of/tried exposure therapy? It's a pretty simple idea; to let yourself feel the uneasiness, the anxiety. Start small. If you are seeing a therapist, please ask them about this. Living with OCD can literally rule your life, but you probably already know that. I hope you are on the road to having a better life, OP. PS People who think OCD is simply a tendency to wash your hands, piss off. |

I'm the same way and I went to a doctor who diagnosed me with a serious type of OCD. I have been seen for it and even given depression medication but nothing seems to work. This actually makes me feel a little good to know I'm not alone. |
