The United States government and its diplomats around the world are nervously awaiting the latest release of WikiLeaks documents, more than two million, expected late Friday or Saturday.

U.S. officials said the documents may contain accounts of compromising conversations with political dissidents and friendly politicians. They also could damage U.S. relations with allies around the world and result in the expulsion of U.S. diplomats from foreign postings.

The U.S. ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, has phoned Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon to inform him of the matter.

In Ottawa, Defence Minister Peter McKay said Thursday he is worried, but only if the leaked information talks about operations overseas. That kind of leak can be very dangerous, he told reporters.

Sky News foreign affairs editor Tim Marshall said: "Potentially this is diplomatic dynamite.

"(It involves) 2.7m emails that have gone between the State Department and various embassies across the world with candid remarks about world leaders, about ambassadors, about foreign leaders.We think that three leaders might be in the firing line, because we know the Americans have criticised (Afghan president) Hamid Karzai, President Zardari of Pakistan and Prime Minister Putin, of Russia.

"Those are just three names that we're hearing that may be criticised. There are many, many more and it is very embarassing for the Americans.

"The Americans have spent the last four months poring through these documents and they will have found 'oh dear, look what we said about X'."

He added there was a debate about whether it was right to publish the documents.

It will be interesting to see exactly what the Obama administration does here. I'm still thinking this is all controlled opposition, but, I could be wrong...

This is very interesting, depending on what's contained in the leaked info, this could throw the cat among the pigeons.
I can understand the need for confidentiality in certain circumstances, but betrayal, corruption and deception used by governments against their citizens best interests should be exposed. The various reactions, leaves no doubt that there will be serious consequences for TPTB, when people find out some of what they've been up to.

The US Government just does not want the truth of certain subjects to become public knowledge.

Proof of how deep the corruption runs in Washington can be very damaging.

I say release all government documents to the public , be top secret or common knowledge document.

The Government needs to be downsized by about 80% and the corrupt politicians put on trial in the public court system.. when found guilty they should be punished quick and harshly for thier crimes against America.
