Once the light turns green, if you're in front haul ass as quick as possible and you can usually beat the next light before it turns red. Once you past that light then its usually smooth sailing from there. |

All those cars parked and engines cold? Yes, as through this world I've wandered I've seen lots of funny men; Some will rob you with a six-gun, And some with a fountain pen. And as through your life you travel, Yes, as through your life you roam, You won't never see an outlaw Drive a family from their home. |

Problem is, most people think the speed limit is 35, so they rush from red light to red light... fools. They're even timed for 25 on a street with 36MPH signs. If you take your time, you can get through the entire city on nearly every street without having to brake at all. Get great mileage that way! |

If you have ever seen the stop lights at freeway on ramps (2 cars per light) you can see they are designed to congest traffic and burn fuel. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1043775No, those lights are designed for all the idiots who don't know to leave space when they're on the ramp. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1185232Its sucx getting stuck behind some tard that takes 5 miles to get up to the speed limit, and you thus get stuck at every fucking light :( But yea, if you get up to the speed limit as fast as possible from a light, majoriety of the time you can catch a lot of the next lights green. |

Especially for a big rig with a heavy load it really sucks. They put the light down at the bottom of the on ramp, so lets say the hwy speed limit is 65 the truck now has to try and merge in at like 30, very dangerous. I just run that light if i can so i dont loose any safe merging speed. And they have those cameras there too and i always show them they are #1 for having those lights there in the first place :) |

The traffic lights ARE NOT syncronized so the oil companies can make more profits! Modesto, California has three streets, major through ways through the town that are timed to meet the needs of traffic throughout the day. Mc Henry, Coffee and Briggsmoore which crosses the other two and has the 'right of way'. I drive down Coffee most of the time, as long as I hit 40 MPH near spot on I will hit every light green except Bridggsmore which gets the 'right of way' across. They started these timed intersections in '02 and while the roads see more traffic now, there is less congestion except the left (middle of the road) turn lane and the far right hand lanes (again turn lanes). Cere's which is the next closest small town decided to try timing Whitmoore, the success and netted decrease in accidents has caused Ceres (this is a small town) to time Hatch and I believe Central and another street. Cere's got the idea from Modesto, Modesto got the idea from a 'small band' of concerned citizens who complained for about 5 years about the horrible traffic, the horrible accidents on the roads that were converted to timed lights. Modesto tested a round about for 10 years (yes a full decade) only after another group of 'concerned citizens' complained about the deaths (6 of them, 5 children, one adult) on a certain intersection. After the roundabout was put in not even one fender bender - certainly no fatalities nor injuries. The same group of citizens had to fight for the successful roundabout to be kept, since the city caused them to fight for it, they also fought for more roundabouts. Hearing their plea, the newly elected city counsel members (hired because the old ones were fired for not listening to the concerned citizens) have started a 20 year project where many streets will have roundabouts and many streets will now have timed lights to facilitate flow of traffic. It takes a group of people to yell, holler, scream, debate, bring forth and present time and time again issues like these. IF the city counsel refuses to listen, then those citizens need to rally at the polling booths. I doubt where you live enough citizens are using their voice to get things done. The traffic lights ARE NOT syncronized so the oil companies can make more profits! It all depends on the city you live in. When I was living in Bakersfield California if you were driving during non rush hour times you can hit 90% of the lights green. Driving at midnight and you could sometimes go through 30 lights without hitting a single one of them red. During Rush hour though you hit about 80% of them green which is amazing. I have never been in another city that has traffic lights so well timed. This is because all of the lights in the city are connected to a central computer and all of the intersections with traffic lights have sensors in every lane. I moved to Minneapolis about a year ago and was frustrated with the lights here. So I started keeping count. I put a sticky note on my center console and put a - for red and a + for green. Well after driving around for a few days keeping count I discovered that I hit 69% of the lights Red. MOTHERFUCKERZ |
