i think with all that he has pointed out it is very plausible. yesterday listening to Rush, Rumsfeld was on and he said those very words"caliphate" and he is in the know.

My opinion is we are in the midst of a clash of civilizations...and this is not the first time in history the West has had to fight off Islam.

And I am sure various Islamic terrorist groups/organizations would love the re-institution of the caliphate (with themselves as caliph). But a multitude of organizations have tried it again and again in the last millennium. But there just isn't enough cultural identification amongst each other to unify such a huge empire.

Just as I'm sure there are quite a few dutch people who would like Flanders to rejoin the Netherlands (and a few Flemish people as well) but that doesn't make it realistic to happen.

Or perhaps something closer to home, I am sure there are plenty of thoughts of creating a north american state encompassing mexico/usa/canada. And I am sure there are quite a few people inside those nations that would aspire to it, but that doesn't mean that it will happen. Or that it will be stable when it happens.
