Yeah, I called my agent and that is exactly what he said to me. That our area was past due for an earthquake. So now I have an agent admitting that not only do they raise rates for PAST expenses but also for anticipated events.

Allstate canceled my car insurance when I got married giving the explanation that I had become a greater risk because my husband did not have a good driving record. He didn't drive my car and I canceled with Allstate and have never gone back.

Like a good neighbor , yeah right.

I live on Long Island and also have State Farm. Last August I spoke with my broker and he said that they were no longer insuring any new home policies just existing home policies.

He said the reason - we are due for a major hurricane. He also told me to go over my existing policy and make sure we have everything we need.

my husband went in to the state farm office to get auto insurance.spent half an hour going through paperwork with the man.signed what he needed to sign and went home.

two months later they sent a bill that was almost twice as much.when he called they told him there was still a form he had not filled out.
no reason given for the rise in insurance.
he told them he HAD filled out all the necessary paperwork IN THEIR OFFICE.
they would not carry out their end of the contract so we canceled with them and found another insurance, much cheaper.

my husband seriously hates them now.
ive NEVER heard anything good about them...so i was surprised he even chose them to begin with.

Insurance companies figure the odds of payouts. Your are insuring against the odds that nothing will happen. Your policy covers you for a period of time and if something happens then you are covered. If nothing happens you lost the bet and the insurance company won. The odds are stacked in their favor. Insurance companies are the private piggy bank of the 1%.

It's like betting on pass line at the craps table. You will loose more times than you when.

My insurance company just sent a letter that I will not be able to renew my earthquake insurance after my policy elapses.

You are either very rich or you don't own property. The banks will not give you a loan to buy property without insurance. If you have the money to self insure a million dollar house then you don't need a loan.
