I feel Satan is a Super Bolide. Similar to Tunguska. Whether this bolide would be associated with Comet Elenin passing near by to Earth or due to the major Draconid meteor shower during Oct. 2011, who knows?

The Great Red Dragon has referred to above has to do with a Comet or possible bolide striking Earth in the 6th Century. I feel then that this bolide came from the Draconid meteor shower (coming from constellation Draco/Dragon) which occurs every year and peaks around Oct. 8th-10th.

This year we have a very strong Draconid meteor shower. The strongest one in a long time.

A collision between Earth and a passing comet in the 6th century AD may have caused the collapse of agriculture, mass famine and indirectly led to the bubonic plague in Europe, a study has suggested.
I'm not certain that there is any solid evidence that the epidemics here mentioned were in fact bubonic plague; in any event, this is beside the main point of the reported hypothesis.
Scientists have calculated that a relatively small comet, or fragment of a comet, could have caused huge amounts of dust and debris to be ejected into the atmosphere, blocking the sun for months at a time. . .

One idea is that a super-volcano erupted, but neither the volcano nor its acidic deposits have been identified, Derek Ward-Thompson, who carried out the latest study at Cardiff University, said. The other proposal involved a collision with a big asteroid or comet, but there was no direct evidence such as a crater.

However, Dr Ward-Thompson and his colleagues Mel Symonds and Emma Rigby believe a much smaller comet which exploded in the atmosphere could easily have generated the dust and debris in the 6th century catastrophe. "Such a time came in the sixth century A.D. The Dark Ages settled heavily over Europe. Rome had been beaten back from its empire. Art and science stagnated. Even the sun turned its back. Then came pestilence. The Justinian plague, named for a Byzantine emperor, apparently began in central Asia, spread into Egypt, and then swept across Europe. Hundreds of thousands died.

The world had gone to hell in a hurry, if the historical accounts can be believed. But with neither evidence of global disaster nor a viable cause, the records were widely doubted by historians.

Worldwide Disasters

New evidence, however, supports the tales of ancient scribes and identifies brief but brutal times of worldwide ecological catastrophe. The evidence is in tree rings, which clearly show several years of cold weather that stunted growth beginning in A.D. 536 and especially after A.D. 540-541. The rings show similar events that began in 1628 B.C. and 1159 B.C., and rare written documents of those times seem also to describe cataclysmic social collapse.

What weapon does nature wield that is powerful enough to alter the course of civilizations within a few years? The most likely explanation, the best fit with the evidence, is that described by both Chinese and Europeans as dragons in the sky: Pieces of comets (or perhaps of asteroids) crashed into Earth, spewing a veil of dust that encircled the world and dimmed the sun.

A much larger and rarer bolide (an exploding meteoric fireball) is assumed to have ended the reign of the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago. A smaller and more common one exploded over the Tunguska River in the Siberian wilderness 91 years ago with 2,000 times the power of the bomb that devastated Hiroshima in 1945. And just five years ago, astronomers watched the fragmented comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 plow spectacularly into Jupiter.

Comet blamed for 6th century 'nuclear winter'

Scientists at Cardiff University, UK, believe they have discovered the cause of crop failures and summer frosts some 1,500 years ago - a comet colliding with Earth.

The team has been studying evidence from tree rings, which suggests that the Earth underwent a series of very cold summers around 536-540 AD, indicating an effect rather like a nuclear winter.

The scientists in the School of Physics and Astronomy believe this was caused by a comet hitting the earth and exploding in the upper atmosphere. The debris from this giant explosion was such that it enveloped the earth in soot and ash, blocking out the sunlight and causing the very cold weather.

Historical references from this period - known as the Dark Ages - are sparse, but what records there are, tell of crop failures and summer frosts.

The surprising result of the new work is just how small a comet is needed to cause such dramatic effects. The scientists calculate that a comet not much more than half a kilometre across could cause a global nuclear winter effect. This is significantly smaller than was previously thought.

Dr. Ward-Thompson said: "One of the exciting aspects of this work is that we have re-classified the size of comet that represents a global threat. This work shows that even a comet of only half a kilometre in size could have global consequences. Previously nothing less than a kilometre across was counted as a global threat. If such an event happened again today, then once again a large fraction of the earth's population could face starvation."

The comet impact caused crop failures and wide-spread starvation among the sixth century population. The timing coincides with the Justinian Plague, widely believed to be the first appearance of the Black Death in Europe. It is possible that the plague was so rampant and took hold so quickly because the population was already weakened by starvation."

1) Wasn't a comet but a Super Bolide that hit Earth during this time.

2) Very interesting in the article that it points out that the comet or bolide would only have to be 1/2 a kilometre in size to have global consequences or about a 1/4 of a mile big.

3) This likely is what kick starts the 1260 day or 3 years 6 months Great Tribulation period of famine, pestilence, and no rain.

In the Middle East and Europe famine and poverty in the 530s seem to have been a factor in the emergence and spread of the first known great outbreak of bubonic plague in the early-540s. In Constantinople, 45 per cent of the half-million population died from the disease, which spread rapidly throughout the Middle East and Europe and re-emerged many times.

Constantinople's population shrank from around 500,000 in 520 AD to 25,000 by 650 AD.

In China, the mid-530s catastrophe coincides exactly with one of Chinese history's most mysterious events - the total desertion of the Chinese imperial capital Loyang in 534 AD, when the emperor inexplicably ordered its half- million citizens to abandon the metropolis.

This was followed by the political collapse of northern China in 535-545 after 150 years of stability and by an unexplained descent into economic and social chaos by southern China in the 540s after 200 years of economic progress."

Draco (620 B.C.) produced a comprehensive set of laws for the city-state, perhaps the first such written code of laws in European history, a code mostly concerned with criminal law [12]. Draconid meteor show: Blah in 2010, big in 2011
NASA already preparing for a celestial pummeling next October

"This year, forecasters expect Earth to narrowly miss several of the debris streams, resulting in no appreciable display for 2010," reported SpaceWeather.com, a website dedicated to monitoring space weather and sky events. "Next year, however, could be different. On Oct. 8, 2011, Earth will have a near head-on collision with a tendril of dust, setting off a strong outburst of as many as 750 meteors per hour."

What is interesting here is how is this Comet Elenin going to possibly interact with this strong Draconid stream? Are they going to intersect? Are there Super Bolides in this stream?

I am waiting on the edge of my seat to see what happens in October related to this. The strong Draconid meteor shower that peaks Oct. 8th-Oct. 10th. This year, the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur is on Oct. 8th, 2011.

I also found interesting that not only was there a large bolide that occurred Oct. 8th, 2009, right during the peak of the Draconids meteor shower but this well-known bolide also happened at that time, Oct. 8th/9th, 1992 as well. Right at the peak of the Draconid meteor shower. And we all know, the Draconid meteor shower in 2011 is going to be HUGE.

Oh yeah, not only Oct. 8th, 2009, but also Oct. 7th, 2008. A large bolide striking over Sudan!

Hmm. I don't necessarily agree with all your Biblical exegesis but I do agree that a lot of interesting and earth-changing things will be happening in the 4th quarter of this year.

As was stated in the other thread, Comet Elenin is not going to hit us, it will just pass VERY CLOSE to us. We will pass through it's tail in late-Oct/early-Nov which will result in tens of thousands of small, medium, and large asteroids and debris to fall upon the earth as flaming bombs, destroying anything and everything in their paths. Very similar to what you see in the beginning of the movie 'Armageddon' when the meteors rain down upon the cities, except we will have tens of thousands of these things coming down on us instead of just a few. The devastation will be enormous.

This is prophecied in Revelation 8 as being the First Trumpet. The first of a series of events which, by divine providence, are meant to give humanity a wake-up call to let them know that the King of kings is about to come and the need to get their hearts right with Him and follow His principles.

"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up." Revelation 8:7

These will be judgements mixed with mercy, hence only one third of the world will be affected. I believe it is also through providence that in Hebrew ELENIN means "God's Grace".

When this First Trumpet happens we will see a world-shift-paradigm as they call it. Because this event of going through the tail of Elenin will be very, very similar to the end-time depiction of the Second Coming of Jesus with hail of fire coming down from heaven, millions will make a call to return to 'godly principles' because God has apparently began to pour out His judgments upon the earth. The constitution of the US will be repudiated or amended and one of the new laws will be a national day of rest known in Bible prophecy as the Sunday-Law. This law however, will be in direct violation to God's principles of keeping the seventh-day holy as a day of rest, so through its passing the people will only further separate themselves from God. As a result, things will only get worse.

This is what the Bible describes as the Mark of the Beast, a national and soon-after international law which will cause men to make a final decision as to whom they will serve( [link to www.seventh-day.org] The issue will not be particularly about the day, but about whom one worships, serves, and follows; whether God and His commandments, or the man-made commandments which will be in direct opposition to that of God. The literal fulfillment of the 1,260, 1290, and 1335 days will then begin with the enactment of this law, the 'taking away of the daily' as Daniel 12 describes it.

A “falling away” is translated from the Greek word APOSTASIA, which means “defection from truth,” i.e., “apostasy.” Therefore, by its very definition, the word “apostasy,” defined as “defection from truth,” means we are talking ONLY about people who are true believers in Christ Jesus who will decide, of their own God-given freewill, to renounce or backslide or desert or abandon their faith in Christ. Obviously you must first be somewhere before you can renounce or fall away from it. So, in this instance, we are not talking about unbelievers, but legitimate, born-again Christians who will be taken in by the final ultimate deception which will be waged by Antichrist through his highly-seductive “doctrines of devils.”

The world Christian community of believers has always experienced a certain amount of apostasy down throughout history. Furthermore, even though the modern church-world has already experienced a great deal of apostasy in many of its mainline denominations, it is logical to assume a very unusual amount of “backsliding” or apostatizing among Christians is intended in the fulfillment of this passage. Not only because Scripture takes special note of it as something very unusual, but also because the scriptural passage which warns us about the final falling away also implies it will be the Antichrist who will cause it to happen. That is why there is coming a day when the Bible predicts that many Christians will NOT withstand the incredible, seductive web of deception which the Antichrist will foist upon humanity. That is why the Bible most assuredly prophesies there will be a final, great apostasy among Christian believers immediately BEFORE the pre-tribulation Rapture occurs.

Such extraordinary deception will be possible for many reasons. For instance, the religious views of Antichrist will appear to be highly credible to most people because he will accomplish many tremendous things for the benefit of all humanity. Among these notable benefactions will be his miraculous, supernatural occult powers and military genius (Dan. 8:23-24) (Dan. 11:35-39) (Rev. 13:4) that will enable him, single-handedly, to enforce world peace and prosperity after saving the world from apparent destruction and devastation (I Thess. 5:3) (Daniel 8:25) (Rev. 6:1-8) (Rev. 18) (Matt. 24:37-39). He will even boast extraordinary, supernatural powers of the mind in apparent attainment of the New Age ideal, i.e., a god-man endowed with “Christ consciousness.” That may help to explain why most people will actually believe him when he proclaims himself to be a god above all other gods. Additionally, he will also appeal to the baser instincts of people by promoting humanistic and mystical views such as the inherent “goodness” of people, and the unlimited potential and power of the mind through “higher consciousness” techniques, and sorceries, and sexual promiscuity, and ecumenicalism, and global unity, and (selective) “tolerance” and “broadmindedness.”

Furthermore, by claiming the esoteric knowledge of how all humanity can achieve a higher level of existence, and proving it with “power and signs and lying wonders,” it will take a very strong Christian to endure the ridicule and criticism heaped upon anyone who refuses to be “scientific” and “modern” and “enlightened” and “progressive-minded.” You can be sure that most people will not look very favorably upon anyone who allegedly retards or prevents the marvelous “transformation” of the world into a “much better place to live.”
