A strong solar flare reaching M5.0+ is currently in progress around Sunspot 1429 at 17:26 UTC. More to follow. ALERT: X-Ray Flux exceeded M5 Threshold Reached: 2012 Mar 10 1725 UTC NOAA Scale: R2 - Moderate Potential Impacts: Area of impact centered on sub-solar point on the sunlit side of Earth. Extent of blackout of HF (high frequency) radio communication dependent upon current X-ray Flux intensity. For real-time information on affected area and expected duration please see [ link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] [ link to www.facebook.com] Quoting: Luisport The latest solar flare has produced a Coronal Mass Ejection. It is already visible in the latest STEREO Ahead COR2 images. The current peak strength of the latest event is M8.4. Quoting: Luisport I'm not sure, but I believe that CME may be from the C8 flare which acted as a trigger for the big one. We should see a massive CME soon IMO. SOHO updating latest Cor 2: [ link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] Methinks another proton storm may follow. Stay tuned.
