Angry sea god shakes earth and sends big wave in harbor. Many die.

Big wave hits nuke plant. Big wave damages cooling water intake structure and pumps (and most likely a bunch of other process control electrical equipment, piping, structural, etc). Backup power to cooling water system FAILS MISRABLY. Loss of coolant accident, no secondary coolant supply. Plant is doomed.

Drama begins. Steady failures of equipment and safety systems. Boom! Secondary containment buildings and equipment inside get mangled even more. At this point, no chance to get rid of heat. Meltdowns begin.

More ongoing drama. Lies from media. The Brave 50 are sacrificed to the god of Saving Face, the Japanese god most high.

More drama, helicopters dropping water. Futile.

Meltdown into pile of toxic nasty goo.

Radiation madness then begins...fear...buy KI, get out of dodge, wear a facemask in downtown LA.

nhk is reporting the nuke plant company comments that seem to be more honest. think i heard that they think they only have one day to submerge the #3 pool at least 1/3rd of the way. that helicopters have to be running continously in quick succession. the rest was drooly optimistic.

There are serious problems at multiple nuclear reactors that are housed at four of Japan's nuclear power stations as follows:

Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Station (Fukushima I)
nuclear reactors 1, 2, 3, & 4 (and very likely 5 & 6)

Fukushima Dai-Ni Nuclear Power Station (Fukushima II)
nuclear reactors 1, 2, & 4

Onagawa Nuclear Power Station
at least one nuclear reactor (but possibly all three nuclear reactors) 1, 2, & 3

Tokai No. 2 Nuclear Power Station
nuclear reactor 2

So...at minimum 9 (and possibly eleven) nuclear reactors are part of this meltdown nightmare.

Here are some details on the surreal situation.

Regarding Fukushima I, the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Station, per Japan's Nikkei news service, "The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) said Saturday afternoon the explosion at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant could only have been caused by a meltdown of the reactor core."

It is also likely that at least partial meltdown of the reactor core is occurring at FUK-I reactor 3.

After yesterday's explosion (and brief fire) at the FUK-I's reactor 4, it is possible that at least partial meltdown of the reactor core is also occurring at FUK-I reactor 4.

Thus, three nuclear reactors at FUK-I Nuclear Power Station are likely to be in the process of core meltdown (partial or full) at this time and FUK-I reactor 2 suffered a second explosion yesterday that likely ruptured a containment vessel.

Fukushima II, the Fukushima Dai-Ni Nuclear Power Station, is operated by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and has four nuclear reactors (1,2,3,& 4). FUK-II is located (7.1 miles north of FUK-I) in the town of Naraha and Tomioka in the Futaba District of Fukushima Prefecture in Japan.

Following the tsunami, according to Japanese government officials all four of FUK-II's reactors were successfully automatically shut down. However, cooling water pumps at reactors 1, 2, & 4 sustained damage caused by the tsunami on March 11th.

Accordingly, on March 13th an evacuation order (radius of 20 km) was issued because of possible radioactive contamination occurring involving reactors at the FUK-II Nuclear Power Station.

The Onagawa Nuclear Power Station is operated by the Tohoku Electric Power Company (TEPC), it has three nuclear reactors (1, 2, & 3), and it is located in northeastern Japan.

On March 11th, a fire broke out at the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station's reactor number 4 and raged for two hours.

On March 13th, TEPC stated that the cooling systems at all three reactors at the Onagawa complex were automatically shut down after the earthquake and tsunami and they were functioning properly.

However, on March 13th a state of emergency was declared at the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station by TEPC because radiation readings in areas surrounding the plant exceeded allowed limits.

The Tokai No. 2 Power Station (Japan's first, built in 1962) is operated by the Japan Atomic Power Company and it is also located in northeastern Japan in the Ibaraki Prefecture. Officials stated that its reactors were able to be automatically shut down after the earthquake and tsunami.

However, on March 13th, the Japanese Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported that a cooling system pump stopped functioning properly at the Tokai No. 2 Power Station.

Can someone please explain. As I understand, if meltdown occurs and fuel rods hit water table there will be massive explosions. The fuel rods are supposed to be kept in water so what is the difference?

When covered in water... the fuel rods are kept at like 90ºF and are in a solid state. After they are uncovered, they heat up to something like 2000ºF, melt into a molten mass... so, yea, drop something that is 2000º into a water table that is probably something like 45-50ºF.... massive steam explosion.
