What's bad is the isotope make up. Numbers above 106, 102, etc... Thats 10 to the 6th 10 to the 2nd etc... . What's bad is some of those have half-lifes of less than 10 mins. Fission is still occuring and somehow is leaking. It doesn't matter at this point if it's the core or cooling pool we have an uncontrolled critical mass. Remember the neutrons? I apologize if this has been posted in another thread. Would like to see input from those with a background on what it takes to get that type of Cl-38 level from seawater.

BBC just reported the "mistake" but they did say that it's still an exceedingly high level of radioactivity.

I'd be very interested in an eductaed breakdown of those numbers too...

Local news here started then abruptly stopped a breaking Fukushima news alert just 15 minutes ago...

There seems to be "alot of mistakes" happening over there.

Seems like they are getting out info then comes the phone call to change it.

Learning from history it would seem necessary to cover them in mounds of earth and concrete before a meltdown - one meltdown =4 meltdowns as I assume that it would spread and the sheer energy would cause the others to heat out of control.

Japan has been lucky to date as the winds have not turned.
In the winter winds are blowing to the east and in the summer to the west.I expect this to happen anytime now....

Reuters news just said that the Japanese have said it was an error in reading..it was not that high ..they are taking new readings.

I mean, come on, you do not have to be braindead to believe that, you have to be a f... biorobot.

The deterioration and embrittlement of the zircaloy clading at elevated temperature will eventually release the sintered ceramic uranium pellets held within which will then collect at the bottom of the reactor vessel.

And since the fallen uranium/MOx pellets will not have the benefit of the boron impregnated control rods to stop the fission reactions...

Fission reactions will start again creating enormous amounts of heat that will eventually melt the bottom out of the pressure vessel and deposit the contents onto the floor beneath the reactor as full or partial meltdown ensues.

What happens after that depends largely on how the 150 tons per reactor (hopefully less) of fissile fuel rod contents ends up on the floor with the molten steel.

If dispersed the reaction may slow or cease. If not? Down down she goes!

And let's not even talk about the spent fuel ponds since the immediate area around the complex will have to be evacuated almost certainly resulting in two more meltdowns.

And then there is the wind.

It's to late, we are someplace in this scenario. Radiation levels are so high we can not get close enough to stop it.

This is proof reactor #2 is cracked severely AND the fuel rods have gone critical already.

The Corium is probably at the bottom of the vessel now. The problem with melted fuel is the distance between the rods is now zero. The fissile strength skyrockets. High radiation is a sign this has happened.

It also means it will be impossible to stop the Corium blob chain reaction. It is probably 6000-8000 degrees F in the reactor right now.

This speculation would be 'put to bed' with just one or two THERMAL IMAGES like they took of the World Trade Centre thirteen days after September 11th 2001 when the ground was seen to be 'like an oven' still.

His views were very dire, full meltdowns and breaches- radioactivity for very large area, and problem for the world. Grave situation.
