Why do women never look sideways while driving???

I don't think its a matter of using the peripherals.. I can only speak for myself.. but I don't "trust" my peripherals to take in the whole view. The same goes when using my mirrors.. I will always look. Blind spots are every where, even in your "womanly" peripherals..

i think thats why women are terrible drivers. they use their peripheral vision more. men are more likely to make full head turns and be more 'aware' of thier surroundings

Want to know why women really do it...it's to avoid eye contact.

All guys check out the women in the cars next to them when their in traffic or a red light.

Peripheral vision my ass. You can only see clearly for 5 degrees off center. Everything beyond that is just a blur.


So yeah you might be able to see something move. But you can't tell what it is unless you look at it directly.

Which is why women get in more accidents involving pedestrians and children playing in the street than men do.

They rely on their peripheral vision too often I guess.

In fact women get in twice as many vehicle accidents than men.


Men though typically speed so when they do cause an accident it causes more damage.

Because women are able to flirt with cops and get out of tickets.

I try to stay aware of my surroundings at all time, whether its doing 70 down the highway, or parked at a red light.

Don't get me wrong, but I would think driving safely would over-rule the "avoiding eye contact." Chances are you are never going to see that person again anyways.. course I'm talking about driving safe and I have literally seen woman changing and putting on make-up on the freeway lol.. (not saying men don't do stupid shit while driving!)

i pass another guy on the road he looks at me and I look at him. its a guy thing. we like to see our surroundings.

Though possibly true.. the insurance company doesn't give a shit what you look like. The reason is logical, Men tend to show off more than woman, hence causing more accidents.

I will say this about both men and women drivers.. Whenever I see someone driving 10 and 2, the first thought that goes through my head is they are probably not a confident driver.. Though I could be wrong, its been known to happen.

The looking sideways, is not so new, as the holding a phone to their ear with one hand a gesturing, with the other. What is holding the steering wheel? Yes women on the whole do use their hands when they talk more than men. Oh and by the way, If men are looking, they know what is going on around them. Now this should get me in some deep do-do.

I think it's a lot of things(some already mentioned, like obvious googly-eyes and the like) mixed together, I've noticed the same OP commuting to work. It's a mystery to me, also relates to my girlfriend and experiences I have while she's driving.

I have no intention of sounding sexist, but merely stating observations:

It seems that men are almost more aware visually and spatially than women. Women seem to be more aware mentally and emotionally. Men find it satisfying to 'know' all of the factors involved, before and during an accident, lets say. While a woman would want to instead ask 'why' and 'if everyone is alright' after an accident. Just a couple theories rolled up into one, I haven't tried to exactly communicate my experiences thus far, but what your OP has is something that's been on my mind.

Also, this difference in sexes, one being satisfied by visual stimulus and the other by emotional stimuli would mean, women have almost no reason to "check out" other drivers. Occassionally they may at a red light but it's probably in inverse proportions to the amount of time men spend "checking" everyone around them.

Seems to be natural, I HAVE to believe this to handle riding with my sig other, she simply does not pay attention, nor is consistent enough to encourage feelings of safety, actually, she doesn't find it necessary to pay attention, she instantly zones out, gets lost in thought or daydreams while driving, haha! I'm sure everyone does it quite a bit, but there are necessary precautions to take while driving and, hopefully, maintaining safety for everyone else on the road.

Both of the mirrors are forward. The women will look slightly up or slightly left only to check themselves out in the mirrors. Vain little creatures that they are.

You are SUPPOSED TO keep your eyes on the road. This is how you AVOID accidents.
