Has anyone tried to explain what 1st and 10 means to your girlfriend/wife?

Did she really ask you, or was this all your own bright idea...?

it means boring-ass stop-and-start game and channel should immediately be changed to HOCKEY OR BASKETBALL (re-runs will do)

Yes we both have Fri off, and we are talking about this...

It's not that difficult to explain and not that difficult to understand.

I tried to explain the basics to a few of my best friends. They didn't get it. So, I'm usually the oddball at the Super Bowl parties in the living room while the rest of the women are somewhere else discussing other things.

Just use simple(r) terminology.... this group of men gets 4 (chances) to move the ball 10 yards. Their first chance is called 1st down, second chance is called 2nd down, etc...

If they move it 5 yards on their first chance (1st down), then they get a second chance to gain the remaining 5 yards, and that's called 2nd and 5, and so on.

I hate football, but everyone knows that.

Better yet, why don't you guys start watchin MMA... It's more interesting, and it may prompt you guys to get in shape and learn how to defend yourselves if a situation ever calls for it. It's actually a pretty organized sport and is growing very rapidly.

Better yet, why don't we all stop watching TV altogether and start being more productive. Man, I'm conflicted.

I just remebered my sister has a phd and she dosent understand it.

You must be some kind of simpleton if you can't properly explain it to her.

Even my 3-year-old got the gist the first time I explained it to him.

But then, my husband says I should have been a sports announcer because I'm always a step ahead of the guys on TV.

Yeah, thats what I have been doing. Have stoped now.

I one time tried to explain it to my gramma...half way through explaining what the down and distance was, she just flat out asked why the offense doesnt just run to the endzone behind them since there is no defense there.

I just stopped trying.

Every year when we go to the football games at the high school where my wife teaches, we have the same conversation. I try. It's a gender thing, I guess. Or, rather, a hormone thing, as many women DO get it. It's just that . . . ah, fuckit. There's no logical, rational explanation for why some women get it and some don't.

Dunno.

it's quite an easy concept. if she can't grasp this idea, then maybe you have the wrong girl...
just sayin... it ain't rocket science.

Go play some football with her. Use a Nerf football and have a good time. Physical memory is important to be able to appreciate a physical sport.

If it is so simple to understand and only you can do it, does that make you a simpleton ?
