Atmospheric levels of methane to reach critical levels in 2011

I had a dream in which Hathor, the Egyptian cow-headed goddess, visited me and revealed that in 2011 methane in the atmosphere would reach critical levels.

Atmospheric levels of methane have been increasing at the rate of 1% per year. There are several major sources of methane: rice paddies, swamps and wetlands in which methane-producing bacteria thrive in the underwater environment, mining and oil drilling, landfills, termites (although there's still some controversy on this one), biomass burning (notably in the Amazon rain forest), and animals.

Ninety percent of animal methane is produced by ruminants (cud-chewers). These include sheep, goats, camels, water buffalo, and so on, but most of all cattle, of which the world has an estimated 1.2 billion. On a daily basis cows emit 400 quarts of methane worth of eructation (burps), along with a similar amount due to flatulence (farts).

Ruminants eat hay, grass and other plant material containing cellulose, which can be digested only by special microbes that, to minimize commuting problems, live in the ruminants' guts. Unfortunately, the microbes aren't as thorough as one might like, and about 6 or 7 percent of what they eat winds up as methane.

In my dream I had the revelation that the Earth itself is a sentient being and in quantum contact with all lifeforms. That if mankind does not change it's ways and bring about an abrupt stop to the rape of the Earth Mother in 2011 she will signal all sentient lifeforms to fart and burp at once, producing a staggering amount of methane which will reach a critical point in the atmosphere, ignite and spell doom for all mankind.
