All you need is cloud-free sky, a clear horizon, an accurate watch, and the ability to determine the compass direction and angle above the horizon within about 20 degrees. (It's easy!) |

You can see them mostly during the 1st hour after the sunset when they are high enough to reflect the sun and thats what you see. [link to www.stargazer.htmlplanet.com] |

There was one star that was clearly brighter than the others. I pointed at the star and asked if he thought it was the North Star. We watched it for a while and all of a sudden it darted across the sky very quickly. My friend would not come back outside afterwards. It seemed much too quick to be a satellite, but I could be wrong. Last Edited by Spof84 on 09/30/2013 08:09 AM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24471396 Australia 09/30/2013 08:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i'm in far north Queensland, and i've been seeing something (in a strange way) the last few nights i've looked into the sky. i'm totally open to putting it down to a lack of oxygen as one poster suggested, or something else.. but this is it: i basically catch a glimpse of a *line of light*. what it brings to mind is electricity traveling over a wire. it can't last for more than a second and it's gone just leaving me watching the stars again. that's all! no, wait, one other thing. a few years back i was watching the night sky and the moon when i spotted a red light - bright as a red appliance light - like on my TV. it didn't move, and i didn't take my eyes off it. finally after a long while i blinked, and it was faded yellow/orange and hard to single out from any other star. any clues for me? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 20812629 Canada 09/30/2013 09:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i have seen these 'stars' do many things: 1) quickly accelerate seemingly from nowhere, and quickly cross the horizon 2) appear out of nowhere, then move a little then vanish 3) 'pulsate', ive seen the pulsing stars (white pulsing, and i have seen an orangey-red type pulsing) 4) 'appear' and then stay stationary, and then fade out (like a big red dot, that became smaller and smaller then vanish) 5) be on a moving trajectory, then suddenly change trajectories, and then go 'warp 9' (zoom up and blast away) my conclusions : ( i am not crazy first of all) 1) secret space ships (ours) 2) 'spirits' 'demons' 3) ufos 4) sattelites? (but sattelites dont give off static light like these things seem to) 5) i have heard that most of our sattelites that orbit have to orbit in a certain way and a certain spin around the planet, these things just have a randomness to them good post OP, hope my info helps. still have no clue what they are, dont dare to speculate (too scary) |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 20812629 Canada 09/30/2013 09:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | also to add on this, i should not sometimes when im outside smoking (rarely 3-4 times) i will have my attention 'pulled' to some certain spot in the sky, just as a 'shooting star' will ZOOM by at extreme speeds if my attention wasnt pulled to that spot, i would have never have seen the shooting stars.. but they seem to pull my attention to the spots miliseconds to seconds before the star shoots.. i get the feeling that we (i) am being watched i dont sense negativity from any of the things i see.. but who knows what the motives are for these showing themselves? i have seen ghosts and bright lights as a kid too, so i suppose not everyone can see these things or will acknowledge them |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 16300826 Australia 10/02/2013 05:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | alrighty i'm back from experimenting.. i think i have worked out that what causes the appearance of lines is a kind of drag effect of sweeping my eyes over a bright star, like when you swing around a sparkler or a poi stick. maybe somebody else knows enough to be able to explain how it happens. is it like time lapse? why does it happen for moving objects like a poi or a sparkler, but also when moving one's eyes over a stationary object? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 4938037 United States 02/27/2014 02:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They're just satellites. Given that there are over 3000 of them in orbit, its not uncommon for conditions to be right to see one. In fact, if you have a dark sky location, you'll probably see several per hour, with more within an hour or two of sunrise or sunset. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42719781 Nice try, but satellites do not come to a complete stop, sit for a few minutes and then start back moving in another direction. |

This is a very important topic, because it can be proven to anyone who is willing and able to look up. I wish we could work together to figure this shit out, it has baffled me for years now. To the people saying take a picture, the lights are so far away that it would take a telescope with a camera attached. Due to the economic collapse, I am far too broke to buy this type of equipment. So, for now, no pictures. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 54218981 Slovenia 02/27/2014 03:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I agree. Would also really like to figure this one out...for years. FROM PHOENIX JOURNAL #5 I am not going to give you descriptions of craft of which to beware for as you move close to the transition there are ones from galaxies far distant from Earth whose ships are quite different. Most of the Lighted galactic ships are spherical in shape and easily identified. Most of Hatonn's command of Pleiades and almost all of my immediate command ships have brilliant rotating red, green, yellow and white lights. We are easily identified at night for we station between you and orbiting stars and planets that we have constant surveillance. Most will appear no different than a star. We effort at showing our presence to our Earth-based workers for confirmation of our presence. We will soon be moving into your visible consciousness. More in my thread... Thread: STARS WHICH STROBE RED, GREEN, GOLD AND BLUE – STARSHIPS??? Truth or hoax? What is the truth??? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 41237090 United Kingdom 02/27/2014 03:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is NOT satellites... wtf is wrong with you ppl? do you seriously think we would not have considered that possibility? Does a satellite suddenly stop, make a 90 degree turn, accelerates to then stop again and then suddenly do what can only be described as when ships in Star Trek jump to warp? I saw it stretching and vanishing into the darkness of space. Do satellites suddenly make a massive flash and vanish? I have seen satellites before, these are not satellites! I remember talking to my friend that's in the army about them and he kept being like you lot: "oh is satellites, or a plane" etc... Then we were at a Fracking Protest Camp sat around a fire with a bunch of ppl, I asked the ppl around the fire if they had seen them, everyone said no... I told them they are so common we would see at least one that night... We saw 6! and every single person there gasped whenever these so called satellites did unexpected things, even my mate that was incredibly reluctant now talks about it and says they were UFO's... Want to see them? go out and look at the sky at night! |
thabla User ID: 59566471 Spain 06/23/2014 01:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Today 23rd of June 2014. I live in Spain. Last Thursday night 19th of June 2014 with a group of friends i was spending a few nights in the mountains west of Spain in an area called La Vera. Since it was two nights before Summer solstice the sunset was around 9.30 into the night. Therefore we had a wonderful dinner inside a beautiful country house and decided to be out in the nature to watch the night skies. Clear skies with no cloud in between. As it was pitch dark without any artificial light contamination we could see the skies gazing with its magnificent stars and galaxies. Friends with the Iphone super technology were pinpointing the constellations, the planets and the stars. As I was looking up really amazed with the galactic way something seriously caught my attention. Amidst all the shooting stars the was one round ball looking light moving at enormous speed across the sky. It was moving towards another ball then it disappeared with a flash. Thereafter within the next few seconds the second ball started moving again at such a speed and again disappeared. While all this was happening i spoke to a friend who was closest to look¡ Hey¿ there´s something moving. It was moving really fast. His reply was that it was some kind of satellite and that they move really fast. Or maybe it was an airplane?? It couldn´t have been firstly because airplanes fly at a cruising speed between 32-33 thousand feet. These balls were flying way above that ceiling. And secondly during night flights there are flickering lights at the end each wing of the aircraft usually with red colour flashes. One could see it rather moving across the sky. No one in the group caught the sequence on their phones as we were all discussing and talking amongst us Oh¡it was just a satellite. Something deep inside me was saying NO¡ It´s NOT. Then I kept quiet to myself and fixed my eyes once again to the sky and then another ball appeared just to the left and started moving again. Another satellite?? I don´t know what is the speed of a moving satellite and I am a constant star gazer but I´ve never seen anything like this before. In the consequent nights I decided to fix my vision to the skies but only airplanes flew across. No satellites to be found. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 60197855 United States 07/13/2014 12:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | saw one in rural southern NH two nights ago and it was not iridium satellites as I know what they look like. Satellite moving in an erratic strait line passed a star then stopped and stayed there for hours. checked past two nights and it was not there. Also saw a strange shallow angle large shooting star that same night as well as light flashes out side. No storms not a cloud in the sky. |

I recently signed up for an account here and i would like to ask you all a question. Quoting: ewj85Last night i was outside watching the stars as i usually do late at night here in the country. I keep seeing stationary stars then all of a sudden they take flight across the night sky. These stars will move from a dead stop skim across the sky quickly sometimes in a straight line others in jagged lines, some will even take off quickly then stop, then take off again before they disappear they will get extremely bright then instantly fade away. I have been seeing this alot this year alone. there were 4 different accounts of this happening last night alone. does anyone have an idea of what it might be? I have heard it is a satellite but i just cant seem to grasp that whole idea just by the way they move in the sky. Thanks Neither of you are crazy.I have seen that myself.Sware to God last night i saw a star move very fast and come to a complete halt.Went and got hubby and the kids to check it out but it didn't move any further just to make me look like an idiot i think.WTH was that?. |

Thanks This really needs to be looked at closer I have been seeing the moving stars for some time . Usually they will be sitting there looking like a star and then start to move like floating across the sky. The only thing I could say that would explain it would be maybe a drone that is high up. They don't blink like a typical airplane light. Where are your sightings taking place ? Also I agree we need to start taking our cameras outside at night, It won't be long before we at least get some video of this happening. |
