I can only imagine what some of you look like and what your souls look like. What you do not realize is that it is you all who are disgusting inside and not the people with tattoos.

No I disagree. I think it is silly to get elaborate ink tattoos, like you said, just to prove how outlaw you are.

People who have tattoos from jail or the millitary at least have some reason for them, like a real feeling of being outcast and abused.

These yuppies with tattoos are the biggest jokes because they never suffered like that. They don't know what it is like to be on the outside of anything.

I find that the ink just goes to their heads and they get very creepy personalities and attitudes. They get all arrogant and self rightous over nothing, as if their tattoos prove how downtrodden they are.

What I'm thinking is, you can't even express yourself mildly without being called names, we are immature and quick to judge everybody and everything as if human beings whom can't even use the full capacity of our brains , decide to make judgement upon another like we are so perfect.. ahaha..As if anybody's opinion will change anothers.

In this passage God is speaking to his covenant people Israel. He is specifically telling them to stay far from the religious practices of the surrounding people groups. The prohibited religious practices in these verses include eating bloody meat, fortune telling, certain hair cuts related to the priests of false cults, cutting or marking the body for dead relatives, cultic prostitution and consulting psychics. All these practices would lead God's beloved people away from Him and toward false gods that were not Gods at all. In the midst of this context we find the word translated “tattoo marks” in verse 28. It is important to note here that the context of this passage is not one of body décor but one of marking one's self in connection with cultic religious worship. Bible commentaries tell us much about the eastern religious practices that God was warning His people to shun.

I used to wear temporary tattoos when it still looked outlaw and freaky. Then eveyone just started to get real ones so I never did it again.

Honey, that's because the people that end up getting too many tattoos (especially those tawdry neck tattoos) ARE trashy. Most of them end up being walking arguments in favour of eugenics.

When guys in prison or in the military get tattoos--that makes sense, especially if a group of guys get tattoos symbolizing their struggle together.

But when narcissistic civilians get them, 95% of the time it's for some b.s. reason. Either they make up some imaginary symbolism for themselves, and then insist on believing in that one idea their whole life long to justify having a tattoo of it, or else they get tattoos of silly stuff like cartoon characters or flowers. I know a guy who has Tazz the Tasmanian Devil on his arm. I know someone else who has Bugs Bunny on his chest. Why the hell would someone want copyrighted cartoon characters owned by corporations permanently on their damn body? You don't even have to be religious or think that "the body is a temple" to shake your head in shame over that stuff. Isn't your body infinitely more meaningful to you than a crude drawing of Mickey Mouse or a scrawling of barb wire or some crap?

Then there are the girls who get a tiny little flower on their ankle or under their wrist. It's like they just want to go through with getting a silly little tattoo just as some sort of psychological ritual to prove that they're mature now. Except getting those tattoos proves just the opposite. It proves they're still silly little children searching to do something rash and drastic to give their life meaning.

That article someone posted about tattoos representing low self-esteem is dead on. In my opinion, it's not the tattoos themselves that are the problem-- it's what they usually say about person. It usually means they're insecure.

I've known many people who have gotten tattoos of Chinese and Japanese symbols, thinking that they meant certain things, only to find out years later that the symbols didn't really mean what they thought they meant. In some cases, the symbols weren't real Chinese or Japanese at all. But the people just put them on their bodies permanently, without looking into things at all. This is how thoughtless these people are and how desperate they are to find some meaning in their life.

All that said, I don't discriminate against people with tattoos in any realistic way. It's not like I'm not going to go to a cashier if s/he has lots of tattoos. It's not like I automatically consider everyone with tattoos an idiot. But it's just one clue you have to take into account when you're sizing someone up. It's unfortunate, because some tattoos are very good artwork, and some people with tattoos are really thoughtful people, but over the last decade or so, more and more people who have tattoos turn out to be really big idiots, in my experience, at least.

Some people are trying to defend tattooing because it's "tribal". Why is something automatically good if it's "tribal"? I agree that more so-called "primitive" peoples didn't have a lot of the falseness and corporatized brainwashing that modern society has. But "tribal" people fell for a lot of their own sort of brainwashing and b.s. rituals. They did human sacrifices. They sometimes killed their first-born babies. They forced women or random children to undergo horrifying acts. And sometimes they also branded themselves with tattoos because they thought that gave them an artificially "holy" status. In most cases, it didn't. Tattooing is mostly just an easy way to impose false meaning onto a person.

I don't care for them at all...so I don't have any.

When I saw how many people were getting tatoos, I decided to be rebel and not get one. And--I have beautiful, yummy skin to look at. Plus, the bible says not to so...I follow that.

1305195, I see what you are saying. I never knew about the tribal angle to it before. They do act like they are suddenly holy when they get tattoos, and like they have special power from it and are part of a tribe. That describes what I was getting at very well when I said they were arrogant and self righteous with a creepy attitude.

Yeah it is so weird with all of those cartoon characters on people's arms. Isn't that what people put up in the bathtubs for little kids? Doesn't that make them feel babyish to have cartoons on them expressing who they are?

I asked one guy who had some cartoon of a baby sucking a bottle on his arm why he had it. He said he felt like that or something. It just looks so unmanly though.

The Bible verse about markings on a persons body has always puzzled me. I have had plenty of surgeries. Does that count? Hell my scars are tattoos to me so I feel no need to hire someone to paint my skin especially with the toxic inks.
