A tattoo doesn't mean the person is trash, but it sure makes them LOOK like it.

I am proud to be tattoo and piercing free, and I won't date a girl with tattoos.

I don't have any tattoos but I think the tattoo frequency/trash ratio is the opposite.

An armband here, a shoulder tattoo there, maybe an ankle rose look like trashy mistakes. Sleeves and more complex tattoos look more like artwork and cool skin modifications.

As for "cool skin modifications" . . . anyone who gets tattooed clearly has self-esteem, self-hate issues and ZERO respect for his or her body, and if they believe they can "modify" whatever their particular problem is by compromising their skin with ink and needles, they are sadly mistaken.

This is truly a very, very disturbing trend and too many people don't stop and think about the risks and repercussions of such imbecility.

No days having a tat is just being a follower, because like you said, they are cool. Its all bullshit and x-boxes in the end no matter what it is.

I'm a woman, and I got one tattoo nearly ten years ago, and I regret it now. Luckily it's on my back, and no one ever sees it except my husband, and he likes it. I don't. I got it when I was 22 and going through a lot of stress, bad times, and I was questioning everything in my life. The tattoo was of something that represented what I was going through at the time, but now, I just see it as an ugly flaw on my body that didn't even turn out the way I wanted it to in the first place. Since it's on my back, there are times when I forget I even have it, and I guess that's a good thing.

My husband has quite a few tattoos, and he treasures all of them. They all have to do with his spirituality, and they are entirely hidden as long as he wears a t-shirt. His are high quality and not a bit trashy, but no one knows about them unless he chooses to reveal them.

Overall, I hate tattoo culture. I know I will probably get slammed for saying this, but most of the women I've met who spend time in tattoo parlors and who have flowery sleeves and chest pieces are out for nothing but attention, and it's obvious. The tattoos are meaningless. All they say is "Look at me, please!" And one thing is for sure. Whenever/wherever there is something that men like and have made popular, there will be hordes of women hopping on the bandwagon in order to get those men. But I digress. In fact I think the attention whore theory applies to quite a few of the men, too, although for them it's a way to look tough and scary as opposed to sexy and slutty. Most tattoo fanatics are all out to outdo each other with their originality and freakiness, but they're all just cookie cutter carbon copies. Once everyone and their brother have multiple tattoos (and piercings), how freaky can it be? The girl with no tattoos who's sitting at home reading a book right now is our society's real freak. Sad.

One of my old friends from school has covered herself in tattoos. Her chest and arms are covered, as well as parts of her legs. She also has a few facial piercings. I cringe to think how she'll look in ten or fifteen years when the fad has died down and the skin is starting to age and it just isn't cute or sexy anymore.

Isn't that the truth . . . but the great thing is that those "freaks" are smart enough to know it doesn't matter how society at large views them or what the sheeple think. They just stay the course, remain true to who they are, and when it's all said and done, they won't have the regrets (or ugly, sagging tattoos) that the self-hating sheeple will have.

Tattoos are visible proof that someone has decided at age twenty-something or so, that the individual has come to the conclussion that he or she is absolutely, positively certain that his values, his sense of aesthetics, and his worldview will never evolve or mature past the current condition.

Clean, pristine, healthy external appearance reflects the soul of a person wise enough to realize that his sense of self will mature and evolve with life experience.

Tattoos say: I'm all into (subculture X, Y, or Z) and will always and forever be enthralled with its set of values.

That might make *some* degree of sense with a worthy, tradition such as the military.

But nowadays people get tattoos reflecting very, very ephemeral fads such as cartoons and other pop culture expressions.

Sad for people to limit themselves to a manufactured culture, or to adopt "tribal" identity which is not their heritage.

One thing I notice is that tattoo wearers are hyper defenseive. Any time someone critisizes tattoos, they come flailing back with a religious fervor. Who really cares? I think they do look silly and trashy but I don't obsess over it.

I just think it is funny that if you feel like getting in a fight, all you have to do is put down tattoos.

They must think that they can substitute ink for actual toughness and fighting skills. They substitute ink for think. They think they are tough without really having a leg to stand on.

Now I wouldn't say that about the original, old time tattoo wearers.

The newbies want to have the cachet of being dangerous while being actually nothing more than someone who would mutilate themself for fashion.

I've seen old tough guys with their faded saggy wrinkly tattoos. It is like a constant reminder of their faded glory. It is kind of depressing. I guess they learn to live with it.

You know what else is weird, tattooed permanent make-up. You can never just look casual then. You are done up like a permanent seductress/whore.
