The Brits didn't threaten to nuke the Falklands if they seceded. They threatened to nuke Argentina if Argentina tried to attack the Falklands, a British territory.

As before, the Falklands are not currently in revolt against Britain. Argentina is threatening to take the Falklands from Britain.

The war would, therefor, not be a war for independence from Britain of the Falklands, but a war between Argentina and Britain for control of the Falklands.

I don't speak for the people of the Falklands. Polls of locals for many years have confirmed the Falklands islanders do, indeed, prefer to stay British.

Rapier 2000 SAM systems

Royal Marines

Falkland Island Defence Force (infantry)

1 frigate or destroyer


UK based:

More Typhoons can be there within a very short time, plus more air-to-air refuelling tankers and transports.

E-3 Sentrys and ASTOR aircraft could be rapidly deployed.

Light armour (or even heavy armour) is air deployable within a day using C-17s.

Infantry can be rapidly deployed via air.

Nuclear hunter-killer submarines, and cruise-missile equipped attack subs can be deployed within a week.

Amphibious forces can be deployed within weeks. Including HMS Ocean and HMS Albion, but also converted merchant shipping. Equipped with WAH-64D Apache Longbows and Lynx AH9 attack helicopters.

More surface combatants can also be deployed fairly quick.



VS:

Argentina's ancient Mirages and Skyhawks (both of which, even though the Skyhawks have been upgraded, belong in museums).

Poorly equipped surface vessels with no defence against nuclear hunter-killer subs.

Poorly equipped and non-combat tested infantry.

Crap armour that the Argies can't get to the Falklands. No airborne intelligence or control capabilities.
