Google.com gives me 404 error
Google.com is down.
It says
404 error
The requested URL /ap_index was not found on this server. That’s all we know.
With a picture of a broken robot. Any way I try to access it. But other people are not having similar problems. My server is Time Warner. WTF! I dont use yahoo for fucks sake.

It's possible google is getting attacked from your subnets and they are blocking access periodically.

I dont use any search engine as a start page. They all place tracking cookies thus knowing when you come and go. I use archive.org which is a 501c3 non profit site i use often.

Searching it said it has something to do with IP adress being messed up. I didnt mess with anything though. First thing I noticed when I was back up and running today.

You are under probably under surveillance by someone...
When big sites like that don't work, it usually means entity x's monitoring programs are blocking traffic due to some very intricate data detection code.

Whenever I run into an issue with Google, I just go to the command line and do "ipconfig /flushdns" to clear the DNS cache and it always works after that.

Take this time to decide if a less intrusive search engine might better meet your needs.

Chrome is shit

Re: Google.com gives me 404 error
This started happening right after I bought a new modem and had TWC activate it. I don't know how that could have affected anything, but the timing is suspicious.

The only way I found to get around the problem is to set the home page to [link to 74.125.45.147] instead of using www.google.com.

Re: Google.com gives me 404 error
I would type in google.com and it would change to google.com/ap_index and display a notice that it wasn't found. I tried google.com/gmail and that worked as did /search. The /search gave me a page that changed the url to /webhp. I changed my start page and home icon to that url and it seems to be working. Mozilla was OK with just google.com but not chrome.

I installed a new cable modem, and then was getting this same error. I reset IE via Internet Options/Advanced tab. Works fine, now.
