Re: BREAKING ! Post Effects Of Irene Official Thread
Something weird is going on, i live in NJ and i have been following my local news for the past 2 days and this morning they went to the beach in my area (monmouth county) and it showed strong winds and loads of rain, no one was on the boardwalk. So i go outside (im 4 blocks from the beach) and it is slight windy with a mostly clear sky and few clouds, it was beautiful like a nice fall day. My sister lives close to the beach and said it was not raining down there or any strong winds. i believe there was a strong tropical storm because i felt it last nite but this morning it died down. Why do the news people lie ? i dont get it

I have a question maybe someone here can help me with. After a hurricane comes through and turns up the ocean does the water temp drop. I'm wondering about the next hurricane and its travel over that water and its gain strength when it goes over. I might now have worded that so well but you get my jest right? thank you

Obama on Irene: 'This is not over.’

Obama: Irene Impact to be 'Felt for Sometime

u.S. President Barack Obama is warning that the impact of Tropical Storm Irene is just beginning to be felt. Nearly 20 lives have been lost, and property damage has been estimated in the billions of dollars. The president spoke Sunday as the former hurricane moved through the Northeastern United States toward Canada.

Although Irene has weakened and left some of America’s biggest cities, President Obama cautioned that the U.S. East Coast will continue to feel its effects.

Well, here's a weird one.\\

I was watching live earth cams of New York City, 2 locations near Times Square. It was raining, not a heavy rain, and people were walking around with umbrellas. You know it can't be too heavy a rain if you can walk with an umbrella. I watched these cams until after midnight. No big deal. \\

I figured the storm hadn't come into the area yet because lots of news outlets were saying it wasn't going to arrive until Sunday morning and then continue on until late in the day on Sunday.

This morning I checked the same cameras. The streets were almost completely dry. There were loads of people out walking around. No puddles near the curbs. There was one camera pointed at a small park. The trees weren't even blowing. No rain. A few small puddles. No wind. This was labeled as being around 9:30 am.\

Originally they were saying that the storm was supposed to last in NYC for something like 13 hours.

It honestly didn't look like there was ANY sort of storm there at all.

Lots of people with umbrellas, no indication of wind. This was last night at midnight.\\

This morning, barely any puddles. What is the stroy??

Ok I don't know why that happened. I can say that in RI some people I know in Prov. have electricity but some down the road have none. My daughter lives 15 minutes from me she has trees down no electricity and some flooding I have none of that here. I have little rain today but high wind gusts she had buckets. I don't know why. That is one reason why I've been trying to find out what is happening around the state. Well that and I have 10 staff wanting to know if we have work tomorrow. I live 25 minutes from Prov. I don't even know what to tell them. Trying to reach the CEO is a nightmare. This was a strange storm and that is all I do know. I think I've said that 6 times in this thread alone.

Let us know if you find more info. At least I'd like to know.

It was more then a shower here. RI 3/4 of the state have no electricity. Trees everywhere look at the link I posted above. It was more then a shower. However, it could be that there were many pockets of heavy rain and wind hurricanes do that. Just like tornadoes do they travel down a road and take out one side.

Just found this article regarding all the hype of the hurricane and how it was blown way out of proportion. pretty good read and spot on, check it out; [link to blogs.telegraph.co.uk]

"There was almost palpable disappointment among the TV big guns rolled out for the occasion when Irene was downgraded to a mere ‘tropical storm”. In New York city, CNN’s silver-haired Anderson Cooper, more usually seen in a tight t-shirt in a famine or war zone, was clad in what one wag dubbed “disaster casual”.
He looked crestfallen and fell briefly silent when a weatherwoman told him that the rain was not going to get any worse. “Wow, because this isn’t so bad,” he said. “It’s an annoying rain but it isn’t even a sideways rain.”
