Fair warning - I am going to rant...that being said here goes. I just found out my son in law is being deployed AGAIN. Ship out date is sometime in January. This time is to Guam, and again it is for him only. The Air Force has not said how long he will be gone. He just got back from Korea in July, and my daughter is just now finishing the unpacking from her move to Missouri. He has been in the Air Force now for 4 years and has been out of the country for most of the time. They told him 2 years before the next deployment...guess they changed their mind. He has already been to Kuwait, Iraq, the Philippines, South Korea, now Guam. On the upside, perhaps my daughter can come home for an extended visit. Guess I need to find the bright side here. I just don't want to see her all alone in Missouri.

Wow, SO. That's why hubs retired when he did. He had just come back from Afghanistan and they wanted him to go back 6 months later. Lots of people from his "shop" had NEVER been. Something is in the wind, I think. They DO change their mind often. Unfortunatly, that's military life. It's a hard one, but one that can be the most interesting, too. Maybe closer to time, he'll have a better idea of how long he'll be gone. Normally, it's on the orders, but these days it may not be. Bring her home if you can, even if it's just for awhile. Hugs to you, hon.hugs

Thanks TB, being the GLP mom that I am I started googling for info. I found this and also posted it on Military Man's thread.

However, beginning in 2013, along with flying “Global Strike” missions, no-stop round trip sorties from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, the Spirit stealth bombers will begin deploying abroad.

First of all in the Asia-Pacific region, and then in Central and South America, Southwest Asia, and Europe where there are no permanently assiged bombers.

Officially, the B-2 is the only platform capable to deliver the Massive Ordnance Penetrator 30,000lb bomb. Capable to destroy bunkers in Syria, Iran or North Korea.

Looks like they are moving some B-2's over so they have to send a crew over to train them how to load.
