**Earthquake monitors for your desktop**
Here is a link to Windows 7 sidebar gadgets for all things Earthquakes. I only use the first one on the list so I can't comment on the others but the earthquake meter v1.1 is brilliant for just clicking my desktop and there is everything magnitude 1 and upwards.(change the settings to adjust to what you want to see and how often you want it to refresh)You can click each EQ listed and it will show a mini map with info about it too.

Sometimes it is easier to just look at your desktop and to see the gadgets rather than loading a website, especially during high traffic and low bandwidth times.

EDIT: These all work on Vista too

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it. - Buddha (Kalama Sutta.)

I think you need a couple more guns in there to make it complete.
