strange indeed, but then again most things are

nterestingly enough, the last time Irene was used was in 2005 when two storms later Hurricane Katrina laid waste to New Orleans.

Names are repeated every 6 years. There was a Hurricane Irene in 2005, one in 1999, etc etc.

They only retire names of the huge killer storms. The duds get recycled.

Desensitize the masses

They recycle Hurricane names... There have been other Hurricane Irenes.... They do retire some names though if they were particularly bad storms and there was loss of life.... I learned this the other night from a google search....
