USGS blanketed the east coast with sensors prior to Irene | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1185535 United States 08/28/2011 11:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.usgs.gov] As Hurricane Irene has left her mark along the East Coast, USGS crews are sampling water for pesticides, E. coli, nutrients, and sediment to document water quality in areas affected by the hurricane. This sampling effort is part of the federal government’s broad efforts to ensure public health and to support the state, tribal, and local response to the storm. Sampling is taking place along the East Coast. Crews will follow the path of the hurricane where it brought high flows. Additionally, high flows from the hurricane have the potential to create higher concentrations of E. Coli in areas that use surface water for drinking. What their intentions are we'll have to watch unfold but putting in all the sensors is odd. Wonder what the pricetag was on that? And how they had all those sensors manufactured so fast? Were they just sitting in a USGS warehouse somewhere or what? |

I think they are expecting lots of plate movement. If you look at the sea bed off the coast of DC there are many cracks on the shelf right before the drop off of the ledge. Another possibility are newer devices for detecting subs, and maybe the USGS dropping them would be less obvious than Military ships. Dont know. |

Interesting thoughts. I agree it's odd. The emphasis on getting it done now, the hype of the hurricane, etc. I've lived on the east coast all my life, have seen plenty of tropical storms and hurricanes and this whole situation just reaked of strangeness. Did they just have almost 300 sensors sitting around? Why didn't they put them in, oh, a couple months ago? Or did they order them and they just happened to arrive via FedEx a few days before Irene and they thought, wow, "lucky us! sensors for the east coast finally!"? |

They did this for a reason and I seriously doubt it was concern over one hurricane. It's either what that hurricane brought in with it or what's coming next. No way it was "just" for hurricane Irene no matter how much the MSM loved her. Some weird juju is going on around the entire fiasco. |

Sad that so many are so willing to sell out themselves and humanity. Oh well, glad I'm not them. |
