OP, I have thought about this myself and tend to agree.

Life on another planet would have evolved in a manner of natural selection and competition like we did. Further, if you look at nature, animals that are preditors or hunters are usually the smartest ones. Wolves vs Sheep, Lions Vs Zebras, ect....

Therefore, intelligent life would most likly have at least evolved as a hunter and would have perfected warfare. The idea of happy aliens showing up to hug us is stupid. The most likely would come for the reason humans invade a new land, resources.

The sun rising two days early in greenland alone should be enough to tell people that something wasnt right.

I agree to a point. However, if they were too "warlike" it would increase the likelihood that they would destroy themselves before they could discover interstellar travel (kinda like what we are going through on earth). Also, war eats resources like nothing else a species can afflict upon itself. This also would tend to make it more difficult for a warlike race to manage space travel.

Maybe it's a stage thing. There being many stages in our evolution preceding our instinct to hunt, reaching the level of a predator made us smart, being a scavenger/hunter made us even smarter...smart enough to become aware of our own awareness...aware enough to realize that our own being is one with the universe. Some people anyway have realized this so far.

I think maybe races that have reached this level of understanding are the only ones to whom the secrets of breaking the rules of time and space are revealed.
