It will only be a glancing blow. All the rest will be even further away due to the active spot rotating to the right. Basically, to hit Earth, the spot would have to be centered on this diagram [link to spaceweather.inf.brad.ac.uk] . If the spot is higher than the equator, it will miss high, to the right of the centerline, it will miss to the right. If it hits Earth, we get pretty lights, maybe your communications act funky for a while. Even the worse flare in history didn't harm animals. During the last maximin we had up to 5 CMEs a day...we survived. Wake me when we get to 6 per day. Quoting: TBar1984 The first video shows something interesting about the 1859 event. Recent live fire test of the shield integrity indicate the shields are operating within operational parameters. The shields are operating normally... links? thanks Go back and look at recent CME events. We've had a few in the last few months. Shields preformed as expected. |

[link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] while there are missing images for several hours on behind, in this one seems a remnant of the same one above. If this got mentioned already, I apologize. This would not seem to be associated with an x ray flare. So far there doesn't seem to be a cme associated with the m flare today where I watch anyway. |

However, the solar wind remains energized and occasional pulses of activity are expected for another 24 hours. Region 1283, the responsible party back at the Sun, decayed today. 1900Z, 9 September, 2011 - The Geomagnetic Storm intensified to G2 (Moderate) due to prolonged southward Bz. But the solar wind magnetic field vector has weakened in the last hour, so possibly the teeth of the storm has now just passed. More updates later. 1400Z, 9 September, 2011 - Now seeing the beginning of disturbed solar wind conditions in the past few hours. G1 (Minor) Geomagnetic Storming now occurring.
