You have no commitment , I was raised the same way to. You were lied to from the get go the mortgage company/bank did not disclose to you the fact that they took your promise to pay and deposited into an account in your name and used the liability side of the account to pay the seller. From here you have to see through this scam and get right with yourself on not judging your actions. The time is now to tell them no more of this crap, we cannot be slaves any more to a system where few do not have to work because of how they set up the fraudulent system in the first place. Defend yourself, fight the foreclosure in court, let them know you know the truth about the fake loans/money from nothing A.K.A. Dire Straights.
When you have been lied to there can be no more promise period............. Peace to you.
P.S. letting go of the possessions is really not that bad any how, gives you more time to appreciate what really matters in life.
