There is regulated Capitalism which operates under the constraints of governmental regulation (i.e. environmental laws, child labor laws, etc..). Then there is Laissez-Faire capitalism which places no constraints on corporate officers so they can ship jobs to foreign shores, pollute the gulf of Mexico or defraud investors at will. It is the latter we have had for the last 30 years in America and now we wake up to find our economy in shambles and no manufacturing base to pull us out of a deep recession. Until Americans can come to this realization we are going to be vulnerable to the the ultra-wealthy playing both ends against the middle. They want the pendulum to swing back and forth from one extreme to the other. Democrat vs. Republican; commie vs. capitalist; etc... What they do not want is a return to the principles that made America great, a constitutional republic with regulated capitalism. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that gets it. |

I'm not so sure they are ready to deal with the darkness of the soul issues in a comprehensive manner. They seem to be confused and simply not mature enough regardless of their age. For instance in the N.Y. live feed they run montages with pump it up music of the more violent European protests and rioting yet repeatedly call for and say they don't want violence. They should be purposely NOT be filming and interviewing the celebs who show up. They may gain a few sheep every time they do and may make themselves feel better for being noticed in this vanity driven society we live in. Unfortunately they're only going to make the message more convoluted and ripe for rejection. That will lead to conflict no doubt. |

At a time when the 400 richest elite now own more wealth than the millions in the bottom 50% you're going to cry for the crooks who produce nothing and whose unbridled greed brought about global financial collapse? Hey, if you want to be on the side of evil that's your choice. Holding the bankers accountable is noble; however, calling for an end to capitalism is not. I understand what you are saying and perhaps I should have added that to my OP. Holding the bankers accountable is stupid. The problem is lobbyism. That's what this is all about, to separate money from politics, to stop lobbyism. Only then a real capitalism can thrive. But it must be a capitalism where there is an upper boundary on how much money an individual can own. Why the fuck should anyone need more than a million dollars anyway? |

Unions, Socialists Join Forces to "Occupy Wall Street" A growing number of unions, prominent big-government advocates, and socialist groups are joining the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations in New York and “solidarity” protests nationwide. The trend has some analysts very concerned — particularly after reports claimed union bosses tied to the Obama administration were plotting to bring about chaos. And while the protests which began on September 17 may be small now, supporters and critics alike say this may be only the beginning of something much bigger. In just the last week several large labor groups have officially announced their support for the occupation. The NYC Transit Workers Union, with nearly 40,000 members, voted to back the protesters on September 28. And the SEIU’s massive 32BJ union, which claims to represent over 120,000 property service workers, recently decided to use an upcoming rally to show “solidarity” with the Wall Street occupiers. "The call went out over a month ago, before actually the occupancy of Wall Street took place," 32BJ spokesman Kwame Patterson told the Huffington Post. But now "we're all coming under one cause, even though we have our different initiatives." The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) union, with over 10,000 members, also endorsed the demonstrations this week. “This occupation on Wall Street calls into question the very foundation in which the capitalist system is based,” it said in a statement, claiming the protests were aiming to hold accountable the “oppressors.”... ...A broad coalition of socialists and Marxists has jumped on the bandwagon, too. The Socialist Party USA, for example, announced on its website that it “supports the mobilizations to occupy Wall St. in New York and various cities across the US and encourages our locals to take part in these actions.” The party, which aims to create a “new social order,” is even broadcasting a live online video feed from the protests. Notorious anti-capitalist agitators have recently started to draw attention to the so-called occupation as well — busily touting it to anyone who will listen. Among the biggest names is “documentary-film” maker Michael Moore, who told CNN that the protests would soon spread across America. The multi-millionaire even went to Wall Street in an effort to attract more media coverage for the occupation. “The people here have lit the spark,” Moore said during a video-taped interview from the protest site (below). “These numbers will grow and they’re going to grow all across the country.” Read the full article: [link to www.thenewamerican.com] United/Continental pilots march on Wall Street: [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] United Pilots' pay: [link to www.willflyforfood.com] Last Edited by anonymous321 on 10/01/2011 09:59 AM |
