If you want to measure how great someone is by their philanthropy, know that he reportedly made donations and contributions to charity, he just did so discretely. (Per peeps that knew him).

He may not have invented the computer, or windowed interface or mouse, or tablet, but he took those things and made them great. Made them beautiful.

I was a die hard windows user, Why would I buy something I couldn't take apart and replace the graphics card? But then I bought a core 2 duo MacBook, and an HP pavilion laptop at about the same time.

The HP ran like shit and ended up getting sold for 80 bucks a few months ago. That macbook though, it still runs great, runs windows 7 in VMWare better than the HP did natively. (Both computer had similar specs/ram etc too btw).

You really do get what you pay for, and I'm reminded of it every time someone asks me to fix their shitty HP/Dell PC, while I download drivers for them on this 27 inch quad core i7 iMac.

Its the difference between driving a Hyundai and driving a Porsche.

I'm not so sure about this Tim Cook guy, because Jobs was dedicated to the design/beauty of it too. If you don't buy that, then Apple will lose what makes them special.

At lest I figure there are at least a few generations of stuff in the pipeline that were still Jobs mandated, so it won't happen overnight.

Well, I must say, his parents knew how to create Jobs.

If he did donate money to people who were truly in need, He should be given credit for it. But people who he aparently stole ideas from, People who worked in factories, Which he had some control over. For whom conditions were so horrible that nets had to be errected against suicide jumpers. I refuse to think of these people as an less important than Mr. Jobs. It seem's to often that people will forgive what a person does, Or in fact ignores based on income alone.

Not trying to be hateful, but I find it very strange how people like Jobs become Saints at their passing.

The man was a genius, but he was also a bit of a hypocrite. Perfectly willing to bank billions of dollars from American consumers while sending jobs to China.

If you don't get what he did for the US and innovation, you need to go back to your elenin doom tard ranches, to spew your back ward narrow sighted bile else where.

Jobs did more for the US economy than any politician or corporate whore over the past 30 years. And he didn't doing it by bombing or bribing.

By his sheer will and analness he produced innovative products that were of real quality.

Its easy to be first, its not easy to produce something that is well thought and runs flawlessly and is of superb quality and build.

In this economic crisis, we need more Jobs and innovation and less pettiness and negativity.

One of the few icons I am honored to grow up with. Thanks for posting the Stanford address. We often don't get to see the person behind the legend. And the person is much larger!

The US lost the manufacturing numbers years ago and like Britain has no manufacturing base.
