Getting new, 8 week old hound in 4 days. What's the best method(s) to get her hunting rabbits?

And where the hell are you getting this hound from?

If it's from a puppy farm or Petco, then fuck you.

If it's from the pound/humane society, then my apologies.

Don't feed him for a few days and put him in a area with a rabbit...that should bring out the old hunting instincts LOL...or you could find a hunter/dog owner and go on a hunt with him and let your dog learn

Throw a stuffed rabbit out into a busy freeway a couple times until he gets the hang of retrieving it.

1.Put the rabbit in front of her.
2.Pinch a nipple.

get a dead rabbit.
drag it around the yard.
reward dog when rabbit is found
rinse repeat

why rabbits?

Take her hunting!

Show it a Rabbit and it will chase it.

This is my method for training them to hunt...go shoot a rabbit, skin it, tan the hide and then use the hide to make scent


next cut up some franks, weiners, hotdogs and every few feet smush the rabbit pelt into the earth...place a piece of hotdog...go another few feet do the same


this will get him tracking

then get a bunch of those little flags that telephone, power cable guys use to mark and make yourself a track at a school ground...do the same

eventualy forget the hotdog and let him track...

you will need to take him out in the field at about six months to get him on a live trail...be sure you are far away from roads

also...rabbits run in a large circle so be aware of the country you are in and be sure the dog is able to navigate safely

shoot and kill one, then skin it. let the pup play with the hyde (outside). also works good for the teething situation.
