Someone in maine got a smart meter removed because it messed with the home's security system. Only story i know of. Until I found this... SANTA CRUZ, CA—Just as PG&E enters the final phase of its deployment of wireless “smart” meters in California, the largest of the state’s Investor Owned Utilities (IOU’s) has reversed course, quietly beginning to replace the ‘smart’ meters of those reporting health impacts with the old trusty analog version. Consumer rights and health groups immediately seized on the news, demanding that millions of Californians unhappy with their new wireless meters get their analogs returned immediately at no cost. Does that nullify the smartmeter's ability to track your use? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1246353 No. The smart meter was made to actually talk to the Smart Appliences in your home. Ideally- these will be... EVERYTHING. Your fridge, your lights, your heater, your ac, everything you plug in will have a chip in it- and you can go online to see neat-o charts of your usage of everything~ and so can the power company, so as it can advise you on ways to save energy. That is what the industry has stated is the goal. Eventually 'walls' will go up to make it much more expensive to run your appliances during peek hours. This is already active in some states. So, you see- it doesn't stop at the meter- it actually goes inside the house to look for smart chips to report back to it. That information would still be transferred whether you supplement with Solar or not. It is the sole job of the device. |

Now power companies can use usagedata in their evil computers so they can plan better for expansians and delivery. Oooooow the horrorrrrr! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1273752 They already have patterns of usage. Data goes back to when it was first put into use. You fell for that line? Wow. The Horror! I got a bridge to sell you. You know the last time we updated our power plants? They are falling apart. They should put some money there before tracking everyone's second by second use of electricity as the grid fails due to not repairing our electrical production infrastructure for decades. See you then Columbo. |
