Always wondered about that... Quoting: Revbo™ Hey Rev! What industries/jobs were those 600,000 people in? I think big numbers like that make headlines, what's the real story behind them? And I can speak from experience. I was laid off in December 2009, can't get much worse in terms of timing. FACT Knowing the market was tight, I was willing to take a risk and try something different (and uncomfortable)..I took a sales job (never did it before) while looking (I was an IT executive..not bragging, that's what I was. Even in good times it would take 4-5 months to find something else). I could have sat on my ass and collected. Instead I at least put the effort in to try. It didn't work out too bad, made some sales but the market was public sector (uggh in NJ). Eventually I found another job that's even better than my old one and with better prospects to move into a CIO level position. That's my story. The point is I was willing to step out of my comfort zone and try something else. I've read a lot of the stories about the long term unemployed..it doesn't look like a lot of them are willing to take the extra effort. Not bragging at all. But I think my story is quite relevant to your question. Back in 2009, the economy was S.H.I.T. No question. Now its MUCH better. Personal observation and experience. |

Always wondered about that... Quoting: Revbo™ Yeah, it does seem rather odd that we have not had a single month this year where job growth has kept up with population growth, yet the unemployment rate went down. For those of you who don't know, we need to creat about 150,000 - 200,000 new jobs each month just to keep up with populatin growth and kids entering the work force. Also, even this number may be low because a large number of people who are retirement age have either put off retirement or are re-entering the workforce. So like you stated, it is coming from funny math from the government. Zazz did say the number is BS too, so we can't take that away from him. Also, I pray to god his evaluation of our economy is correct and that me and the other financial doom tards are wrong. This is one time I really want to be wrong, because I have a feeling mad max scenarios won't be quite as fun in real life as they are on tv... |

From fortune 100 companies to .gov and let me assure you, you are fortunate to be experiencing this Renaissance that you allege you are experiencing. While my business is still profitable, I do not know for how long, therefore, I am not waiting around to see what is going to happen next. I am consulting and leasing my lands for commuter ranchers and hunting leases. I too am proactive, I too don't sit on the government tit, but you cannot tell me you don't see the BS behind these contrived and manipulated numbers? The unemployment numbers are not accurate, go to shadowstats and see for yourself. Furthermore, the DOW is being held up with 'hope'. |

They are keeping the DOW elevated and pulling fairy tale unemployment figures out of their a** in order to keep the sheep distracted while they pass this bill S-1867 declaring war on the American people. You didn't think they would pass that bill AND let the DOW and unemployment tank, did you? Distraction is the name of the game! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6125764 TPTB know they have to ease up a bit right before the elections to get who they want in there. Just wait until after the elections, that's when they will pull the rug and continue on with the destruction of the U.S. Watch for things to get a little better on up until the elections. They do it every time. The only difference is this times things are much worse than ever before and even just a little which easing will not mean much in reality...just enough to get their man in. . |
