I would be jumping for joy.

She had homeowners insurance right?

I wonder how the insurance company would fare doing battle over who pays for the house that they watched burn?

Fukkit,,,

They probably blew the money for home owners insurance on lottery tickets and NASCAR plates...that ironically got burned up in the fire...

Not MY fault YOU are too stupid to buy STANDARD FIRE INSURANCE,,

It IS a great "investment" for times like this.

Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. What happened to being human? They have the equipment and the training, but they stand there.
 Quoting: Turtle

if they put out the fire then no one would pay
 Quoting: MrOysterhead

So you have capable men fully equipped and you see nothing wrong with watching someones house burning to the ground. Well hell, lets save money and not even have the firemen come out. Im sure the fire department can check on a computer to see who is paid up. No need to waste all that fuel is there.
 Quoting: OdinWodin

They go out because if someone is trapped, they will rescue them. However, after all people are out, they will let the structure burn. No sense in them risking a person to help someone who clearly doesn't have the will to help their own self by paying the $75 fee. I'm under the same type of fire protection and pay $100/year. But, my homeowner's insurance is lower because I do have that fire protection as opposed to having to wait for trucks to come in from the city or from the next county. Most people don't realize that they are already benefiting from the volunteer fire department long before they ever have to call them. Without my fire protection, my homeowner's insurance would be about $600/year more than what it is. I'll gladly pay the $100 fee for a $600 discount.

Yes, because everything is about money and not about human kindness.

I know it's the way of the world, but it sucks.

Yeah, I just watched the movie about Tesla and how we could all have free energy, except everyone is a greedy bastard.
 Quoting: Turtle

the fault here is with the home owner. she was aware of the fee and decided not to pay it.

these firemen make a salary, fire trucks arent free either

I live in Los Angeles and I was ran over by a van and the fire department sent an ambulance right down the street from where I live. Then they sent me a $1000.00 bill for the 2 mile ride. So I ask you why do I pay taxes?
 Quoting: OdinWodin

Because ambulance service is generally offered by a private company, not as part of the police protection services. I grew up in a small town of about 25,000 people which, believe it or not, had 3 major hospitals at the time. If you called an ambulance, you called the hospital you wanted to go to. If you called 911, they asked who you wanted. If it was a car accident type situation where you couldn't specify, they called the hospital that was closest to come get you. Ambulance service was privatized and run by the hospitals. It still is in a lot of areas. Rescue squad is different since it is run by the government. I know if I call 911 and request an ambulance, one is sent from the hospital about 12 miles away.

Are you talking to me? I make $33,000/year. And, $100 of that is sent to the fire department (St. Jude gets $100 each year, too, in case you are interested). I budget the fire coverage on the same line as my homeowner's insurance and add an extra $8/mo to my tax/insurance/fire escrow savings account to cover it. It's really not that difficult. Forego one 6-pack per month and pay your damn fire tax.

Re: Another house burned down, Firefighters watched again..
The South Fulton Fire Department made national news last year after they refused to put out a house fire due to an unpaid fire subscription fee, and it appears that policy has not changed.

Homeowner Vicky Bell watched her home burn to the ground on Monday while firefighters stood behind her looking on, according to WPSD-TV.

While the city provides fire service free of charge to its residents, it requires an annual $75 fee for homeowners who live in unincorporated areas of Obion County -- which doesn't have its own fire department.

This happened last year sometime and people whined then. The chief stood his ground. I hope he stands strong once again.

You don't buy car insurance after an accident do you? It sucks that the house burned down and they watched it, but she admitted she knew about the policy and chose to not pay.

Bad decision on her part, not the chief's.

who cares if she didn´t pay? aren´t the firemen human? These "people" are just completely fucked up in the head...
