Thrive Movement Scam and Aikido Scam
Just a little heads up on some side information next to the Thrive movement.

Mr Gamble, the son of perd...I mean P and G is also pushing another New Age product. A New Age Martial Art called Aikido.

[link to blog.aikidojournal.com]
[link to www.thrivemovement.com]

This Art (I won't include the 'Martial' part for reasons of accuracy) is typical New Age fare arriving as part of 'Gods Plan' to 'destroy techniques of destruction' (i.e it is a Peacenik 'hand over your weapons, put on weight, grow a ponytail for the good of humanity scam')

www.bullshido.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-103994-p-20.html

The founder, Morihei Ueshiba, was an average-to-above average sickly rich kid Martial Artist who was actively involved in a New Age Cult called Oomoto after the death of his Father.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]
[link to www.oomoto.jp]
[link to www.oomoto.or.jp]
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Mr Ueshiba was loyal to his Guru, a man named Onisaburo Deguchi who was variously proclaimed to be a 'megolonmaniac', 'Devil', 'Madman' etc etc who channeled loads of New Age symbolisim stuffs from...ahem...the heavenly realms.

[link to www.aikido-shobukan.org]
[link to holyspiritvictorious4ever.blogspot.com]

Ueshiba went through various initiatio...I mean 'enlightenments' and, thank the heavens, was incarnated as (another) Lord Maitreya or savior.

[link to www.forum.exscn.net]

At its apex of development, you can hope to look a bit like this:

[link to www.youtube.com]

Aikido has lots of odd child initiatives and ties to child 'protection' groups.

[link to www.bab.org.uk]

Yet every few years it seems a junior gets fiddled by an Aikido Instructor.

[link to www.aikiweb.com]
[link to s3.amazonaws.com]

This group also has a plethora of World Invoc....I mean 'peace','love','harmony' and other buzzword type initiatives with those jolly fellows at the UN.

[link to www.aikipeaceweek.org]

Like Any Good New Age cult, Aikido is based on a few 'real' principles developed from a Chinese/Japanese lineage of Martial Arts/spiritual teachings (and there are snakes within this cult who build thier entire reputation on elucidating certain obvious historical facts)

[link to en.wikipedia.org]
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

If you don't know what a confused cult of hypocritical psuedo intellectual, psuedo warriors (with a certain percentage of people who talk sense trying to help the rest) looks like, see here.

[link to www.aikiweb.com]

Gamble, who has been fully fratted, fagged and chupas on la polla of the New Age seems to have wrangled a few good and less good names for his project(who knows maybe animal torture in the name of world peace and plastering your face with his slippery ancestors vile products means your can pay good tips).

[link to helpfreetheearth.com]

Thrive Movement, Zeitgeist, Aikido, The Venus Project,; the problem with these serpents is, try as they may, they literally cannnot produce anything without that gaudy, overproduced BS vibe to it which sends your Chakra system spinning the wrong way and your inner vision exploding with alarm bells and New Age symbolism. The only thing this Thrive movement proves is what a bunch of hacks and amateures are able to hoodwink so many. We may also suggest these guys are a getting quite desperate that they need to reveal a portion of thier game plan to get you involved in thier bullshit.

I like that purple torus though, I found visualising it with a neatly wound up turd inside it produced a minor spiritual experience in me.

Yep, Aikido is a Scam, it comes under the category of 'New Age initiation'. Of course there are some valid aspects to it, but then I hear there are aspects of Scientology Auditing which offer some benefits whilst they lay your mind and wallet to waste.

Haha, I don't have any problem with Jesus in particular, or Martial Arts for that matter, I suppose you could say with Martial Arts, Religion and Conspiracy there is a common theme; that being the utter possibility of becoming someone delusional or being a complete nerd (not the good type of nerd but the type who scares you a bit). Appropriation of an exotic culture's costumes, the words of a guru (who spoke a different language to you), following some supposedly 'enlightened' authority and so on.

Saying this, there is surely an authentic experience within these things. If you are a Martial Artist, for example, it is no real secret that you must navigate a whole minefield of strangeness from people people thinking Asians tiptoe on lake Wudang after lunch to those utterly convinced, the ponytail pulled back over the blackhead-populated-through-overuse-of-the-Bigmac '5 times a day Salat'-forhead will get you tail of another kind.

Yet within these things I am not so pessimistic to think there are not honest people, exploring things with integrity. For example, Martial Arts has had to 'mature' somewhat, since even I remember the phenomenal amounts of bullshit these Martial Dancers and Chee Martial Artists could get away with not so many years ago even(I say 'even I' because it was certainly much worse when these things started being imported from the East).

I have had the occupational 'misfortune' of having been to and thus having stopped in on Martial Artists/Dojos around the world, to the point I lose count, which takes the edge of ones capacity for delusion maybe.

I criticise New Age martial Arts because they really work against any forward movement of Martial Arts/humanity or any other quest for truth which you may care about. I don't know how many people are tuned in to the realities of New Age/ Luciferic initiation but sadly....bullshit it ain't. I really just hope humanity in general learns to seperate the potential beauty of these 'old' traditions from the immesurable ugliness of the New Age.

Aikido is a good way to get your ass kicked. Trust me. It will not work against anyone with the slightest ability to fight. You would be far better going to bowling lessons than learning it.

You need to know how to grapple and how to strike. Here are my suggestions:

Muy Thai - striking
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - grappling.

Boxing, Judo, and Sambo are also good.

Great advice!
Yeah, Karate and other traditional forms of martial arts ain't shit unless you apply the techniques that work, which is what MMA fighter, Lyoto Machida does today in the UFC.
but even then, if you start from scratch learning a TMA (traditional martial art), you waste a lot of time with stuff that don't work in a real fight situation. However, the discipline that any martial art teaches is invaluable.

Nope, I wrestled and boxed from around age 8 as well as starting Tae Kwon Do & Judo from 9-13. I earned a black belt in Ryukyu Kempo at 19. And I abandoned the 'karate' nonsense the first time I stepped on the mat with a BJJ black belt.

Now, I train in Sambo, BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing, and Savate. Karate will get your ass whipped. Fact. It's nonsense. The reverse punch is woefully ineffective for fighting someone not dressed in bamboo armor. Boxing is much more practical striking art.

Muay Thai and Savate have far more practical and street applicable kicks and leg strikes.

And Judo, Sambo, BJJ, even traditional Japanese jiu-jitsu have more effective grappling components.

And for every one successful karateka you see on utube or other places beating a 'bjj' trained fighter, there are ten or more instances of a bjj fighter, wresler, or sambo player ass raping a karate master.

Would the only current real world application of martial arts these days be in MMA training?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6848358

I do have respect for a lot of MMA training. There is a dichotomy in Martial Arts which postulates that you are either a 'cough' enlightened master with funny hats, pyjamas, chee abilities and a thousand yard stare which really suggests the utter unworthiness of those daring to be in your presence or you are a steroid abusing, testosterone thumping cage rapist, I have met many more of the former then the latter incidentally.

Recently, I was with a good friend who is a very capable Mixed Martial Artist. I have no problem discussing some of the 'hippy' aspects of MA with him which I am interested in (Not really 'hippy' but based in thousands of years of Asian culture, something Modern Aikido is not, to respond to a poster above)although I don't really expect him to care about it unless it is in fact presented in a way that pertains to his interests. The problem is that there are many people exploring 'spirituality' in martial arts who are abhorrent narcissists. To be honest, many of these people (especially of the New Age variety such as those in Aikido) do not care about Martial Arts at all but really want to hold an image of themselves which lies somewhere between a Capcom coin-op game and Gandalf the Wizard, 'saving' the rest of us fools who do not want to join thier One World Uniting flower dance. What is good about people who follow conpiricy theory (often conspiracy fact) is that they are quite aware of this glossy, shoddy New Agery and consciously work against it.

I don't know what will happen in Martial Arts, I have been quite impressed by MMA, and as I say IMA (internal martial arts) has 'matured' over the years although it is a work in progress (few IMA people would admit that). I think there needs to be intelligent people who have the right amount of historical facts, knowledge, personality, willingness to travel/work at things and ultimately those with integrity and passion and mindfullness of the diseased route the New Age wants to take things down.
