If the building is in such bad shape that walls are already collapsing, the structure itself isn't really serving any purpose anyway. It's not protecting the outside from radiation if it's full of cracks and damage, so the integrity of the reactor itself, not the walls surrounding it, would be more significant.

There is a farm of spent fuel on the top floor! That spent fuel is just a few clicks off as nasty as the reactor itself. It requires a continuous bath of coolant and structural integrity!!

Normally I would be 100% in favor of putting the Japanese into our camps just to get them out of the fallout but there is a bad downside to helping them.

Our already stresses healthcare system can not afford to care for so many sick and so many mutated births in the future.

They should find help and shelter upwind in a different country, not downwind of this disaster.

If they come here we can probably expect of healthcare system to completely collapse since we already can't afford to care for our own citizens already.

There is a time to help and then there is a time to cut your leg off from infection, as sad as this is, Japan is an infection. We simply can't afford to care for them when our economy and healthcare systems are currently failing.

Let me say that if reactor #4 collapses and the spent fuel goes critical there would be no point in bringing evacuees to your camps as your areas will be getting hit very hard with very high levels of fallout. You, yourself would need to evacuate.

Also, if Japan goes under you can bet 100% that your economy and that of the entire world will go down the toilet much harder than the Great Depression (on order of magnitude). This is why the media has been downplaying this from the beginning. All the major decision makers know this and have planned accordingly. We will never be told when it is Game Over.

What does "massive evacuation" mean, OP? The Fukushima nuke plant? City of Fukushima? Japan?

Rev, Wut up my Dog? Likely the eastern seaboard of Japan would need to be evecuated. Would Japan allow the evacuations? There are three other fully melted down rectors in Fukushima prefecture, and if the people were stupid enough, which the Japanese are clearly not, their governement would let them travel and continue life as usual in said prefecture. Although this is a very disconcerting development, it like all others will be swept under the rug to die in silence. Very fucked up.
