Any answer that doesn't include a spiritual aspect is doomed to fail. You don't have to reach out to any of the organised religions (although they can be a BIG help to novices), but you do need to reach out to the spirit realm. You are immortal and in contact with infinite energy, there is no reason for fear. Another public service announcement from the Southern Hemisphere Information Leveraging Locus. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 503869 United States 12/19/2011 10:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to answers.yahoo.com] If im drinking 1 to 2 bottles of wine a night, ALONE is it a proplem? sure that'll become a problem in many levels. first.. you'll be reliant.. second you'll suffer gerd and thirdly you'll have a overly high cholesterol and triglycerides level which leads to hardening of the arteries. it catches up with you, eventually. been there done that.... i grew up on a grape farm... we made our own wines... having a vineyard and a process to make the vine into wine didn't help much. soon i found i was drinking so much wine i figured i better cut back... i wasn't doing overly well. my blood chemistry was in havoc with too many sugars and goop... my potassium was very low and that is a real bad thing to do upon yourself. and i had ulcers and gerd real bad. acid reflux is no day in the park and can kill you. i cut down and i'm glad.. i don't need to drink that much during meals. weekends it was worse. always wine, wine this and wine that. before i knew it was realized i was drinking two bottles at dinner. i cut it down considerably and things improved just the same.... i also lost quite a few pounds. got my energy back and no longer does acid reflux wake me from a dead sleep and i'm up gasping and choking for air. it'll catch up with yah, sooner or later... just recognize the problem and make an effort to do something about it, if you wish. :D it's not good to maintain that much drinking daily, it does do much damage over time. 3 years ago Report Abuse |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 6992575 United Kingdom 12/19/2011 10:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have talked with my wife about it. I'm not letting it effect my work but it is effecting my home life. I know I have a problem but it is hard actually to do something about it because all your friends call when they are drinking and want you to come over. Hell I'm lying about it on this post...I drink to the state of drunkenness by my self all the time. I have done it to myself tonight actually. I cannot stop myself from drinking if I have alcohol available. I blame only myself and no one else. Help would be appreciated. Quoting: Newbie78 HI newbie... sorry to hear about your problem... may I say though you are still a proficient typist even though your slaughtered! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1212800 United States 12/19/2011 10:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you are uncomfortable with the amount you drink do some soul searching and come up with a plan. Wean yourself off slowly. Find new friends or activities where there won't be pressure to drink. My down fall was started with social drinking and the next thing i knew i was drinking alone. Thankfully I got bored with it and now i just enjoy 1 or 2 here or there. You can do it OP! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1361275 Canada 12/19/2011 10:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's much easier to resist drinking, when the temptation is out of sight, out of mind. Get all the alcohol out of your house NOW. Tell your wife you are fine with her drinking, if she drinks that is, but that you need her help with this. Just this one step alone will help you immensely. If your friends are focused around drinking, tell them that you are not feeling very well these days, and are going to give up drinking for a few months to see if you feel better. Tell them you can still be friends and hang out, as long as drinking is not involved. Also tell them that you need their support in this. If they continue to try and twist your arm back into drinking...well, they are not really great friends, are they? Also develop new habits that will discourage you from drinking... it takes three weeks until your body starts to accept and like a new habit, so, hang in there. If you usually drink at night, go for a long walk or something. Do something else that gets you up early each morning...this will also discourage you from drinking, if you know you have that commitment. Good luck my friend. |

If you cannot control yourself from peer pressure, then don't be around those kind of people. If you cannot control yourself from drinking alcohol when you're alone, then you need to ask God for help. Let your wife know what your goal is; to quit being an alcoholic. She can help you. Cutting back is a step. Your goal should be no alcohol under your roof. |

The program and the 12 steps saved my life and in turn, I have helped other alcoholics. It will be 10 years of sobriety in May for me. Good luck to you and God bless! Anonymous Coward User ID: 7365530 United States 12/19/2011 10:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I drank to get drunk from the first time I took a drink.I drank EVERYDAY from ages 18-35.The only way you will ever quit drinking is if you believe you will die,or your so disgusted with your behavior you can't live with yourself.I drank to forget , to remember,I gave myself Jaundice, alcohol poisoning. put myself for risk of AIDS,HEP C, I was robbed once at gunpoint.I wound up in the ER one night with my esophagus in spasms , 210/140 BP and Jaundice . The doctor pushed on my Liver and said " Has a little drink today huh?" . He said I would die if I kept it up. maybe not this year or the next but I would . I still drank 5 years after that EVERYDAY.I finally told myself on Holloween 2001 that I needed to grow up. Be a man and quit.I used prayer but you can use whatever God or belief you want. Just remember your powerless to alcohol.Grow the hell up and quit . be accountable to your actions. The memories of what you did when you were drunk will be the worse part or at least it was for me.I haven't missed it once in 10 years of sobriety. And all those friends you THINK you have now just wait until you quit they won't be around. They haven't hit bottom yet . Good Luck !!!!!!!! you won't regret it . |

Does AA help with this? Quoting: Newbie78 You can't try to quit drinking in a half-ass manner...you will have to take a break from those friends for a while. If you HAVE to go to a social occasion in the next little while, drink only soft drinks, and make sure your friends know that you do not want to drink...maybe be the designated driver as well, which will help you keep your promise. But do try and just avoid these situations altogether for a while if possible. |
