Reported cases have come in from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maine, Iowa, and Indiana. Eleven of them were children. Half of all the cases had not been exposed to swine, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) adds. All patients have made a full recovery; three had to be admitted to hospital Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1271723 Link: [link to www.medicalnewstoday.com] I wonder if it has anything to do with this?: It’s too late to keep details of deadly flu a secret! Keep an eye out for new flu viruses, WHO warns The World Health Organization is urging countries to be on the lookout for new flu viruses. The WHO is stressing the importance of monitoring for new variants of flu and reporting any findings to the Geneva-based UN health agency. The statement comes in the wake of a series of discoveries in the United States of human infections with a new swine-origin H3N2 virus. [link to edmonton.ctv.ca] |

Signs of Tamiflu-resistant 2009 H1N1 flu transmission cited Dec 19, 2011 (CIDRAP News) – An analysis of 2009 H1N1 influenza virus isolates from the 2010-11 flu season suggests that low-level community transmission of an oseltamivir-resistant strain took place, a development that bears close watching, researchers reported today. Though the conclusion was based on a small number of patients, the authors said a higher prevalence of the resistant strain last year in people who weren't exposed to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) compared to the pandemic months is a notable difference. Researchers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and their state partners reported their findings in an early online release from Emerging Infectious Diseases. Still it is an interesting article. Vitamin D-3 is a weapon that we can use against this. Swine Flu vaccine Dangers exposed Swine flu was considered a pandemic in 2009, though it wasn’t nearly as serious as health officials predicted it to be. At the time, a vaccine was quickly put together with very little testing, in an effort to protect the population from the impending danger. Many people chose not to get the shot because of the swine flu vaccine dangers, and because they didn’t see swine flu as the big threat that it was hyped up to be. However, this year people may not have the option of not having an H1N1 vaccine if they opt to get a regular flu shot, because the same vaccine virus that was used in the 2009 vaccine is now part of the regular seasonal flu shot. [link to www.topsecretwriters.com] Vitamin D proven far better than vaccines at preventing influenza (NaturalNews) If scientists discovered something that worked better than vaccines at preventing influenza, you'd think they would jump all over it, right? After all, isn't the point to protect children and adults from influenza? A clinical trial led by Mitsuyoshi Urashima and conducted by the Division of Molecular Epidemiology in the the Department of Pediatrics at the Jikei University School of Medicine Minato-ku in Tokyo found that vitamin D was extremely effective at halting influenza infections in children. The trial appears in the March, 2010 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Am J Clin Nutr (March 10, 2010). doi:10.3945/ajcn.2009.29094) [link to www.naturalnews.com] |

That certainly does not mean (all) strains or (all) of the new strains are resistant, but it is important. This is something that we must all stay vigilant on. |

His dissertation focused on feline retroviral expression in tumors in domestic cats. In 1982, he developed the flu monoclonal antibody, which is widely used throughout the pharmaceutical, biotech, and research industries in epitope tagging techniques. He also produced a broad panel of monoclonal antibodies against synthetic peptides of oncogenes and growth factors. These monoclonal antibodies were distributed worldwide to researchers by the National Cancer Institute. The antibodies identified novel related proteins which correlated with clinical parameters. To achieve this in a laboratory, they introduced a number of mutations to the virus that could also occur in nature... Transmissible Of the 600 people who have to date been infected with the H5N1 virus worldwide, 60 per cent have died. Avian influenza cannot be spread from one person to another by sneezing or coughing. Scientists worldwide have been concerned with the question whether the virus could change into a virus that can spread among humans. “We have discovered that this is indeed possible, and more easily than previously thought”, says Ron Fouchier, researcher at Erasmus MC. “In the laboratory, it was possible to change H5N1 into an aerosol transmissible virus that can easily be rapidly spread through the air. This process could also take place in a natural setting.” [link to www.erasmusmc.nl] |

My whole family came down with H1N1 two years ago. They never even tested us for it until the last member of our household came down with it, then by the time she had it we were already over it and it was too late to give any of us a vaccine or tamiflu. I'm pretty sure that these strains have already been around a good number of people, they just don't test for it or even report it to the public. |

I am not a CDC fan either. 12 Reported cases is just the start. How do you think it started in 2009? Not with hundreds or thousands, it starts with a few... I would absolutely love to be wrong about this being something worse then 12 cases of the flu. CDC estimates that between about 8,870 and 18,300 2009 H1N1-related deaths occurred between April 2009 and April 10, 2010. The mid-level in this range is about 12,470 2009 H1N1-related deaths. [link to www.cdc.gov] 12,470 (averaged) deaths. The numbers fluctuate 8,870 and 18,300 because of the reporting and testing at the time. That is United States only. That is H1N1. The new strains are different. H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2, H2N3 and H5N1. Once again, it is about awareness. |
