Satan is a counterfeiter. He has created a framework of counterfeits for all the prophecies in revelation. Satan is planting evidence to make it look like The Vatican is Mystery Babylon the Great. Thats why there are so many coincidences with the number 666.

The mark of the beast prophecy is written in revelation which is symbolic.

So to count the number of the "name" of the beast is symbolic.

We must look within the Bible to see what "name" is symbolic of.

God’s name is his word. God’s word will be imprinted within the minds of his elect.

And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. (Revelation 19:13)

God’s mark is obeying his commandments.

Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. (Deuteronomy 6:1-3)

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)

Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. (Deuteronomy 11:18)

Keeping the commandments is a figurative mark or sign that goes on the hand and between the eyes. The forehead is symbolic of your beliefs, your faith, and your mind. While your hand represents your actions and deeds.

I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes. (Psalm 119:48)

Keeping God’s days of worship are part of this law.

Then Moses said to the people, “Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the Lord brought you out of it with a mighty hand. Eat nothing containing yeast. Today, in the month of Abib, you are leaving. When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites—the land he swore to your forefathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you are to observe this ceremony in this month: For seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival to the Lord. God’s mark is having vital spiritual truth’s (oil or God’s word) in the mind (lamp or forehead).

Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, “Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!” Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, “Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.” But the wise answered, saying, “What if there isn’t enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.” While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, “Lord, Lord, open to us.” But he answered, “Most certainly I tell you, I don’t know you.” Watch therefore, for you don’t know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. God’s law is said to be something that is sealed upon his disciples.

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. (Isaiah 8:16)

God’s elect are said to be ‘sealed’ as well. God’s elect are sealed by keeping God’s laws.

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. (Revelation 7:4)

The Church of Philadelphia represents God’s elect. It seems that keeping God’s commandments is what sets this church apart.

I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and has not denied my name (Revelation 3:8)

The sealing of God’s name upon his elect is God’s mark. God’s elect are sealed with vital spiritual information. They are obedient and follow God’s laws.
Beast’s mark

Like God’s seal on the foreheads of the elect (Rev 7:3, Rev 14:1, Rev 9:4), The Mark of the Beast will also be a figurative mark. The Mark of the Beast vs God’s mark is ultimately symbolic of who’s image or semblance you take after. The Mark of the Beast is the antithesis to the mark of Christ and is symbolic of worship, of allegiance of the beast, and also of disobedience to God’s laws. The Mark of the Beast is conforming to the image of “the man of lawlessness” (2 Thessalonians 2:3).

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:16-17)

The name of God represents God’s word or his Torah (Revelation 19:13). Therefore the name of the beast is the beast’s word, the beast’s commandments and the beast’s laws.

The Mark of the Beast is disobedience towards God’s laws.

in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: (Ephesians 2:2)

The little horn shall try and change times and laws.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. (Daniel 7:25)

Anyways here's an idea I had throwing around

So to count the number of the "name" of the beast one must consider that name is symbolic of the "word" (God's word or the beasts word).

The word of the beast is the word of the end times kingdom I'd assume. Perhaps we will need to use gematria (assumedly) on the beasts (kingdoms) word. Like a slogan of the End Times kingdom. Think of a Nazi slogan or Soviet slogan that summarizes the beliefs and rules of the philosophy of this End Times kingdom. Or like Aleister Crowely's "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law"

Use gematria on that slogan and perhaps if it adds up to 666 then we have solved the puzzle?

I'm not sure as of yet though the above is just speculation.
