Vancouver health authority begins its free crack pipe program for addicts

Great idea! Real estate is so expensive there. Attracting all the crackheads on the entire west coast of the continent will bring prices into my range, lol.

Somehow I can see various crack addicts from the entire western US heading for Vancouver BC. Images of chartered flights, plane loads of people with rotting teeth, scared skin, and glassy eyes, who haven't bathed in a while, are somehow coming to mind.

Great Vancouver! You've got $60k to spend on this program? Frankly, you'd better make it 60 million! Or more. There is almost no limit to what an addict can consume given free access to their drug of choice. I mean eventually when the doses get high enough, this shit will stop their hearts or suppress their respiration to the point where they literally forget to breath - with the result being death, either way you slice it. But then again, maybe that's the idea??

Perhaps Canada wants these pitiful and addicted individuals to leave this world as gently as possible with a head/body full of their drug of choice. Is this treatment, or euthanasia?

Be interesting to see how this works out. But their initial funding seems low considering the influx of people who will no doubt be heading to VC/BC.

If you had any doubts the world has gone off the deep end, this should do it for you.

I can think of only one reason why Vancouver would do this & that is to kill them off. Its cheaper than spending money to help rehab these peeps, which rarely seems to work anyway. How very clever of them, to offer this program under the guise of compassion but really is euthanasia.

Taxpayers will not be happy about this.

I am not a progressive, but drugs are a health problem, a societal problem, but not a police problem.

We've tried putting them all in jail, but it's not working. How about giving some new thought to the subject instead of the same old neanderthal approach.

There was a "needle program" in Vancouver (don't know if its still available?) & from all the reports, it did not help to rehab these peeps. It was/is a waste of taxpayers money.

If our governments really care to help drug addicts, they could start with wiping out the drug dealers & their suppliers. But of course we all know that the governments are all part of the drug problem.

Since Vancouver wants to handout free crack pipes...why not toss in some russian krokodil samples!!!

Oh please, spare me that tired old tune. You fail to percieve what is actually going on. Imagine instead of drugs, we were talking about al-qaeda and we were catching cell members on street corners. How long do you think it would take the system to roll-up these terrorist organizations? How long do you think it would take to freeze their money? It would be done *snap* like that. Do you think that the local pushers are somehow super-loyal people? That their character is so hard as to never be broken? The fact that there is a drug problem means that the system is in control of it. The cause of it. THE problem. You don't have to look very hard on the internet to find all kinds of examples that this is in fact the case. And has been for a very long time. There's too much money in it.

Okay, I can't say I am for this program, but my sister who has worked emerg at hospitals in Van for a long time, has spoken of many horrors of what walks through the doors due to the mouth burns.

The nurses are for it, it will help cut down their work load and trips to the hospital for the crackheads.

So although you all think it's a bad idea, there is a method to the madness and you need to look at things a little deeper before condemning them.

Why not stop treating them? Win Win. You choose your fate, if you decide to use drugs that will kill you that's your problem.

From all the reports, the only reason it wasn't expanded is the conservatives took over the government and the US government whined like little bitches.

Yes, if the drugs kill you it's your problem. Then it's the state's problem to collect your body, process it, and dispose of it. Also, it is the state's problem to pay for any medical care that you can't afford. Like I said - retards.
