That is so un-right and it scars the kids.

My son died - I didn't take pics of him dead wtf

And my sister died when I was 9 and no one took pics wtf

I know back in the day folks took pics of dead kin, but jesum crow, it was hard enough to see my sister in a casket dead, what if my parents had elected to take her home - I think my scars woulda been far worse.

My mom, circa 1930s, talks about home funerals and talks of the nightmares and scars of having dead folk in the house.

The dude is a nutjob.

 Quoting: Miss Kitty

Apparently you have trouble reading, it was one of the first things posted in this thread.

"There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass."

Unless you believe 6, 4 and 1 1/2 year olds have the ability to decide things like this for themselves? I guess they said, "hey daddy, can I please kiss my 6inch baby brother you have in the palm of your hand" That 1 1/2 year old sure is mature, I guess it should be able to decide if it wants to have sex or not too if it is able to decide whether or not it wants to kiss dead fetuses...

No, they took their 20-week-old BABY home. They held their BABY, showed the siblings their BABY BROTHER WHO HAD DIED, and then held a funeral for their BABY.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4242853

No, no, no, it's a fetus and anyone who says otherwise and has their children participate in such grieving cerimonies involving the not-a-baby fetus is guilty of child abuse and must never be elected to a public office...

How is it OK or normal to bring home a dead 1 year old baby and force your kids to cuddle with it, sing to it, and kiss it? How is that normal? It is not. How is that healthy? It is not.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8185968

We're not talking about a dead 1 year old, we're talking about a baby that never got to experience life outside the womb or meet the family. I find it incredible that you have decided you get to judge the grieving process of this family. How dare you. How dare you.
I repeat, that is not even normal for the Victorian era. It would have been considered strange in an era where they forced their kids to sweep chinmeys and work in mines without any protection.

Others have already shown this statement to be false.

Which others do you speak? - those that had a miscarriage or as the medical community calls it a "spontaneous abortion".

I don't know what to think of that, but it doesn't sound normal.

Years ago I lost a baby at 22 weeks. I had a regular birth, but baby was too premature to live. I held her in my arms in the hospital bed for 2 hours before she died. I was devastated for a long time from that.

To take premature baby home that way sounds a bit freaky to me. But to each his own I guess.

SHAME ON U

HE IS STILL A CHILD OF MINE

I have not lost a child but I have children and I understand this. I'm not a Santorum fan but that has nothing to do with how parents handle the death of a child. They handled it correctly with their kids as they saw fit, and I don't see anything wrong there.

No, they took their 20-week-old BABY home. They held their BABY, showed the siblings their BABY BROTHER WHO HAD DIED, and then held a funeral for their BABY.

Just for your information, all you grown-up fetuses out there, many babies born today near that stage can be saved in the NICU.

How would you feel if their 2-year-old had died at the hospital and they'd just asked the doctor to flush it for them?

Anyone reading this who is against abortion had better make some decisions about when it's a baby and when it's just a lump of flesh. I do not know how to copy pictures into a post, but take a quick look at what a BABY looks like at 20 weeks. VEry small, but fully formed and sucking its thumb.

You think Santorum's the sicko? Tossing a stillborn child out at the hospital is what's sick. What they did speaks volumes about Santorum's character--and what all of you posted above says volumes about yours.

Make no mistake, God will judge. Both Santorum and YOU. And looks like it might be soon, too.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4242853

Yup. They took their baby home because he was part of their family. They wanted closure and to say goodbye. A human being should not be just tossed out and forgotten.

If the children wanted to see their brother and cuddle him then fine. But I wouldn't force them. I wouldn't force them or anyone to see any dead person. But I would acknowledge the death and have a burial.
