One problem with this is the jet fuel, standard Jet A freeze point is -40 degrees, give or take two degrees.

Since the area has experienced severe cold, flying in could cause problems.

They are using hot water drilling. No pollution. much better.

The method that they were using to drill in Vostok was one in which they planned to quickly back the drill out when they hit water and let the pressure from the lake force to water up to the surface. This was done so that no drilling fluid would contaminate the lake. There were fears of an explosion because the underground gasses were high in Oxigen a Hydrogen.

My guess: That lake was under huge pressure because of its depth. When they drilled though, something happened and Kaboom. Either that or a huge ass geyser of water with immense force set off when they got through. So they may all be frozen from a liquid water explosion as well.

Seems like a good coincidence though that they lost contact with the team on the day that they were supposed to break through.

The article mentioned they have used about 65 tons of kerosene, this equals close to 20,000 gallons as a lubricant.

Used to keep the hole from closing, the problem is the walls of the hole are contaminated period. The petroleum will seep into any pore that has been generated due to the drilling. There is no way to remove all of the kerosene.

But this is justified, acceptable and allowed, yet there is no outcry from allowing them to use petroleum. Once it seeps into the lake it will contaminate it period. There is no way for them to remove 20000 gallons, some of it yes, but all no way, not in that type of environment or location.

Leave it to any government to do as they please and at any cost. But if 20k gallons of petroleum were to be spilled, imagine the different levels of government wanting to fine and or jail the responsible party or parties.

There are some thing meant to be left alone, or only approached when the technology is available and can be done in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

Maybe the aliens that live under the lake didn't want to be found.....
