we are supposed to be "color blind" yet we have institutions like Black History Month, affirmative action, United Negro College Fund.....seems a bit contradictory to me.

If anything, there should be a National Immigrants month..
Where White, African, Asian, and everyone else all celebrate their own cultures... Considering Natives were here first and all others immigrated here.

Then a separate month everyone should have Native American culture shoved down everyone's throats.

Asians were slaves, too, ya know.. And they had their own struggle in this country. Just as Irish and Scottish immigrants.

What makes African Americans so damn special.. The month is more for White tolerance education anyway. Most black people grow up having been preached all of their cultural crap anyway.

This like all "affirmative action" Does nothing to promote "black" history. The only accomplishment is to establish that there is little REAL contribution.

It's like the Special Olympics. The contestants there are not able to compete at the full Olympic level, so they need a class of their own to compete within. Or they wouldn't even qualify to compete at all.

The Black history month only establishes that what contributions exist from the Black community, they are so far and few between that they need a Special Olympics category. To even warrant mentioning. So Black History month, is nothing but the promotion of the less meaningful accomplishments based on something as arbitrary as race.

No one questions Dr. King being discussed as an important part of history. And his place isn't relegated to one Month, it's discussed all year around. So there's obvious examples that when an accomplishment or a contribution is truly important, it no longer needs the Special Olympics equivalent.

All affirmative action does, is establish that the beneficiary of it isn't really up to par, and needs blinders created by political correctness so that we all pretend that isn't the case.

As for this Black history stuff I dislike that the month is dedicated to just that Black history...

Education on all history is important...

not just picked because of the colour of your skin or the name you call god by...

History as a whole topic should be learned... it is sad that it is too light of a subject it should be held with the same standards of Math and English...

Maybe we could learn from some mistakes if we saw the path behind us a little more better... it would make the path going forward much easier for all...
